State police said Arlee Canton, 61, had slowed her 1995 Mercury Marquis for traffic congestion on westbound Interstate 20 when she was rear-ended by a pickup, driven by 48-year-old Jimmy Clements of Simsboro. Police said Clements changed lanes suddenly and ran into the back of Canton. The impact sent her car into the median, where she hit a tree. State police said Clements was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident. She was taken to Lincoln General Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.

Clements had minor injuries, and his passenger was not injured.
