Francis 5- 3-1 runnerup team in the Mid- State Conference West Division last year forms a good nucleus for the 1976 club under new Coach Roger Lauhead. "I feel we have some good potential, but 1 don't know much about our compeition," Lauhead stated prior to the opening game against pre- season pick Battle Creek. The home opener Friday against Battle Creek will be a rugged assignment as the Braves have already been picked as the number two team in Class C-l. Quarterback Jack Kessler, 150, junior, is a good ballhandlers, while Randy Heesacker, junior, fullback; Pat Eisenmenger, 145, senior, wingback; and Alvin Zach, 155, junior, I- back, have quickness. Kessler will have ex- perienced ends in Joe Eisenmenger, 155, senior; Mark Albers, 150, junior; and Gary Hassenstab, 165, senior. Up front the Flyers have veterans in John Fuchs, 170, junior, guard; Melvin Wemhoff, 158, junior, center; Richie Heinen, 155, junior, guard.

Elgin was the Eight- Man state championship runnerup a year ago with a 10- 1 season and the Sandhills- Gateway club has been picked as the No. 3 club this season. Elgin returns only three starters but the club has All- State candidate Bill Michelson, a 6-4, 195-pound end hi the lineup. Humphrey's Leroy Bitter has an All-State pick in Matt Brandl who was'listed as a defensive tackle, but Ditter will have the 6-3, 220-pound senior opening at fullback. Ditter is beginning his -10th season at the Bulldog school and the Wayne State grad has two seniors Ed Slizoski and Richard Braun returning a being injured last season.

Slizoski is a 185-pound guard and Braun a 156-pound quarterback. The backfield has a quick, hard hitter in senior Gordon Widhelm, 150, while Paul Krings, 152, senior has three years of ex- periences. Top line prospects are senior guard Bob Korth, 160 and Bob Shemek, and Dave Krings is a 160, junior, end. Other lettermen back are Jeff Bender, 150, senior, end; Andy Krings, 140, senior, back; Don Maguire, 160, senior, Krings, 130, junior, quarterback; Terry Sjuts, 160, junior, end; Larry Korth, 130, senior, defensive back; Ronald Widhalm, 155, junior, center.
