Brrvanl Thursday, October 3, H7 Driving Symptoms BREVARD COUNTY DEMOCRATIC II DEMOCRAT 11 REPUBLICAN" U.S. SENATE COMPTROLLER REPRESENTATIVE OF STATE DISTRICT 3 DISTRICT 44 ijij id Mi Explained What are some of the trouhle symptoms to look for when driving your car? How do you use a jumper cable on a dead battery? How do the brakes on your car work and how do you know when they're going bad? These' are just a few of the questions asked by women. Many women want to know more about their car's operation for their own driving safety. WHAT CAN YOU do when your car malfunctions? Recognize trouble symptoms and know -what to do about them. There are a number of symptoms of trouble you can easily see on the dashboard.

Watch the various warning lights. Know what they mean as well as the steps to take if one of them goes on. The oil light may be one early sign of trouble. If it goes on while you're driving, stop the car at once. The light means oil is not getting to your engine.

If you continue to drive, you'll burn out the engine. Check the oil stick to see if you're out of oil. If there's oil, it may not be circulating. This could happen if the oil system becomes dirt-clogged. Check your owner's manual for the' oil type your car should use.

The hot light on your water temperature gauge is also a warning signal to watch for. If it goes on, check for leaks or steam. But if the car is hot, don't remove the radiator cap. You could be seriously burned. Wait until the engine cools 30 minutes or so before you try to check the radiator for water.

IF THE generator or alternator light goes on while you're driving, turn off all accessories like fhe radio, the heater, or air conditioner and the lights. It generally means your battery is not being recharged by the alternator when this light goes on. Seek service immediately. There's nothing worse than a dead battery. Carry a set of jump cables to use if your battery should go dead on you.
