From the commilttc of Softly of the Jurisdiction nf Information of the most important and decisive charar. tor has just been received from liexar, from unquestionable authority, which, in the opinion of this committee, calls for the prompt attention of the people. The substance nl this information is, that (en. Cos was expected at Di xuron the Kith of this month, with more troops, that he intended to make an iuiinediaie attack ou the colonies; that there was a olall to try to Ibment division and discord nuioucthc people, so as to use one part against the other, and prevent preparation, and that the real object is to destroy iiud breuk up the foreign settlements in Teinl. This committee have no doubt of the correctness of this information, and therefore recommend, That the people should maintain the position taken by them at their primary rueetiuir-.

From a conversation iu the House of Lords, it appears that the bill for the ubolition of imprisonment for debt, which had pulsed the IloUfo of Commons, will probab! nut be taken up in the IIjusj of Lords during the present session. On the last reading of the Irisii Church in tlio House of Lonls soino clauses have been r. 'jetted 1:1 the Itill passed by thu Coiiinmiiers which will pruv'o another source of disagreement between tho two legislative bodies. Further amendments had been made to the Municipal Corporation bill by the House of Lords, and with these it had passed throtiirh the House In committee. The report of the committee was to bo brought up 3 days afterwards, mid would no doubt be adopted without further discussion.

The course which will, under these circumstances bp pti ruled by the House of Commons, is evidently looked to ith the greatest interest, and well, it may bo, for the Crown ut present in a dilemma from which, it is dillictilt to see how it will extricate itself. In l'aris, the Hill in relation to the press, is still under discussion in the Chamber of Deputies, notwithstanding the ttrcnuous opposition niaJo to it, tlio general opinion seems to bo that it will eventually pass. From the Buslon Dally Advertiser and Tatrtot. After tn interval of ten or twelve days, the light of thrt Moon being- sufficiently withdrawn, I sought the Comet again yesterday muming between two and throe o'clock. I found it readily and without difficulty near K.ipjm Jlurigtte, a star of tlio-ltli magnitude, on a line joining Pollux and the upper horn of the Bull or llela Tuuri, at about one third of llio distance from the latter. The same lino passes through the Pleiades. I saw it with a telescopo of 'i foot in length, having an object glass of inches diameter and magnifying about 1 times.

I saw it also, altho' less pluinly, with a terrestrial telescope of 111 feet, having five glasses and magnifying 41) times. I presume it may now bo seen with a good semi id's glass, called a day-glum. It is a great mistake to suppose that it requires a large magnifying power to see such an object. The chief requisite is light with only a slight enlargement, and the advantago of a large telescope over a small one is in the greater quantity of light. The body of the Comet now subtends an angle four or five times as great as the planet Jupiter, and it is invisible to the naked eye not so much on account of its sinalliiess as the of its lighl.

The appearance of the Comet answers very well to the description that has already been given. It was extremely like the faint dill'uso light of a star seen through a thick mint. Such a mist happened to present itself after 1 had been engaged about an hour, and put an end to my observations for this night. I could distinguish nothing like a nucleus, although the light was evidently stronger towards the centra aud became fainter and fainter till it gradually vanished in an ill defined and apparently circular outline. There does not seem to be any tendency as yet to prolong itself in the direction opposite to the Hun.

The different paths assigned to the Comet by tlie several calculators nearly coincide for some extent in the part of the heavens where it now is, and its course as hitherto observed, agrees very nearly with these combined results. But it is later by 6 or 7 days in arriving at its present position than the time assigned in the Ephemeris contained in the supplement to the Nautical Almanac for 18:13. It may be expected to justify the assumptions by which Fontecoulant was led to revise his calculations, fixing the time of pas-King the perihelion or point of nearest approach to the Hun as late as the 13th of November. J. FARRAR.

Cambridge, September 20th, 1935. I observed (he Comet again this mornim; during intervals of fair weather.
