Boys or girls from 14 to 18 years of age are eligible to join the cadet program the unit Is planning. The Civil Air Patrol Is an official air force auxiliary, a quasi-military organization of clvlc-minded volunteers. The CAP pays no material reward, Murphy explained, beyond the satisfaction of doing a community service and the experience received from the group. Michigan Wing officers appeared in South Haven recently to form the first of several units In the area. Benton Harbor, Niles, and Dowagiac are on the list as poten tial CAP squadrons persons from these cities may Join the local unit until the other units formed.

Murphy urged air-minded youngsters to attend the meeting and learn of the objectives of the group which trains cadets In basic mili tary and pre-flight subjects. Your Schools By Jane fiickenbach The seven men sitting at the T-shaped table were soberly In promoting our town most mi' portant business venture that of providing' for Hit "education of our youngsters. I gained a great respect for these members ol our Board of Education as watched them consider the prob lems of our school system. They could have been direetors of great business cor- poration setting up company pol and procedure, The meeting i t(ttended last Tuesday was held In the admlnlstra- high school. Two rows of chairs Miss were provided for BtakenbMh spectators, as the meetings are open to the general nubile.

The chairs remained vacant, The News-Palladium was represented, by a reporter. Ed Backus of WHFB was present, as was Attorney Robert Small, the Board's legal council. The T-shaped table took up most of the left side of the room. Each place at the table was marked with a copy of the agenaa oi me mecv ins? I found that we were to- con slder, among other problems, the teacher situation and plans ror aa ditions to Morton Hill school. Promntlv at 4 o'clock, Board Pres idenf W.

M. Cunningham called the meeting to order. While Sec. retarv Harold Crocker read the mln utes, 1 found myself considering the p-nnel of the board. All are men vitally interested In community welfare; they are prominent in the business life of our city; all of them have or have had children In our schools.

The sober blue or grey suits they wore confirmed them as conservative business men. sun't Sidnev C. Mitchell recom mended the addition of two full time teachers for Sterne Branson and Morton Hill schools. They will serve In the all-ready overcrowded -kindergarten and first grade. The Board studied the proposal with consideration for both the condition the budget, and the welfare of the children.

But the thought that classes of more than 35 youngsters ran not be "ably handled by one teacher led to the acceptance of tn suriermtendent's recommenda tions. Mr. Mitchell then advised that there was such a serious shortage of elementary Instructors that It might be some time before suuame tenrhern could be secured. Architect Harold Maurer, Junior member of Maurer and Maurer of South Bend showed to the board nlana for the remodeling of the Morton Hill school. The men studied the plans carefully.
