The Associated Prew PITTSBURGH Mario Lemieux scored twice during a five-point night and the Pittsburgh Penguins rallied from a four-goal deficit to beat the reeling Atlanta Thrashers 7-5 on Thursday night and win for the first time this season. Down four goals halfway through the first period, the Penguins stormed back with a team record-tying six power- play goals. The Penguins, in danger of a blowout loss after Ilya Kov-alchuk scored once and set up three goals in the opening 9:50, needed 10 games for their first victory easily the longest stretch in franchise history. The Penguins have at least one point in all but four games, but are 1-4-5. Lemieux, Sergei Gonchar and John LeClair each scored twice on the power play as all but one of the Penguins' seven consecutive goals against goalie Steve Shields in his first start of the season came with a man advantage.

The only other time in their 39-season history the Penguins scored six power-play goals was Dec. 12, 1986, against Toronto in an 8-3 victory. Atlanta 4 i 1-5 Pittsburgh 2 4 1-7 First Period-1, Atlanta, Kovalchuk 4 (Savard, Havelid). 3:18 (pp). 2, Atlanta, Stefan 2 (Hossa, Kovalchuk), 8:32.

State but I'm sure for Bob, he might not want to admit it but part of his heart is still here (at Minnesota)," said Lucia, whose team bounced back last weekend with a sweep of Minnesota State-Mankato. "He knows our personnel inside and out and he's got (the Huskies) playing aggressive, the way he wants. They've got an outstanding goalie in Bobby Goepfert and he'll keep them in a lot of games. If they get to three (goals), they'll have a chance to win." The Huskies don't need any reminders that the series has become a nightmare.

They've lost eight straight and are 0-9-2 in the last 11 games against the Gophers. St Cloud State's last victory coincided with Joe Jensen scoring the first three goals of his career on Jan. 3, 2003, in a 4-3 win at Mariucci Arena. Jensen is a senior now and that was the last hat trick by a Husky. "They've got some kids on their team that aren't on special teams that would be on our power play? Motzko said of the Gophers.

"That's not a crack at our guys, it just shows that they have so much depth." In the near future, Motzko hopes to tap some of the same resources he brought to Minnesota only this time for St. Cloud State. He'll still battle the Gophers' mystique, at least in-state, but in building up a program he can also offer something in short supply at places like Minnesota: Ice time. "You look at a kid like Marty Sertich," Motzko said, referring to the Rosevflle native and Colorado College's senior center. "Does he win the Hobey Baker Award if he goes to Minnesota? I don't know, but at CC he's always had a chance to play in every situation." But recruiting, of course, concerns the future.

And that's not going to help the Huskies in the next two days.
