The widely recognized average of 30 blue chips fell 7.88 to 832.38, its lowest close since it stood at 824.15 on Dec. 9, 1975. Losers outweighed gainers bv mtjre than a 2-1 margin on the New York Stock Exchange, and the NYSE's composite index of more than 1,500 common stocks fell .41 to 52 09. Big Board volume totalled 17.87 million shares, up from 10.58 million Monday when many investors were taking a Columbus Day holiday.

Analysts said the main force behind the market's slump was fear of a new round of accelerating growth of the money supply, credit-tightening by the Federal Reserve and rising interest rates. In the over the counter market, the NASDAQ composite index closed at 101.23, down .46. McLaughlin Is Asked To Resign CHARLESTON. W.Va. (AP) The head of the Air National Guard in West Virginia has been asked to resign by the Rockefeller administration and said Tuesday he doesn't know why. J. a i of Charleston, a Democrat and former House delegate, said the request came as a surprise.
