Daniels, Alexander Gogulski, Sug Hsueh, Samuel Lee, Chris Librizzi, Bing Luke, Nicole Pannucci and Brian Wong. Montgomery High School had five students honored in the Scholar with Honor category. Students included Ryan Cann, Jessica Frankel, Christina Logothetis, Brian Pante and David Segaiini. Mantuano, an avid supporter of arts education, provided a stimulating and entertaining vocal model for the middle school boys. Manville Kelly Kopaco of Manville has been placed on the President's High Honor List at Union County College in Cranford for the 1999 fall semester. Desiree Luszcz of Manville received a bachelor's degree in art education from Syracuse University at the conclusion of the fall 1999 semester. She will be honored at the university's 146th commencement ceremony on May 14 in the Carrier Dome. Maura Pritchard of Manville has enrolled as a member of the class of 2003 at Dartmouth College in Hanover, N.H.

Pritchard is the daughter of Robert and Annette Pritchard and graduated from Rutgers Prep School. the current branches of government. Others are working on communities of the past. The fourth grade is currently studying New Jersey geography and history. Students located 21 counties and some classes wrote reports on individual counties.

They also studied Washington crossing of the Delaware and New Jersey's role in the Revolutionary War. The fifth grade has been working hard on learning long division. They have been using manipulatives to make the concept clear and discussing when they use division in our everyday lives. The students also participated in the local radio station's WCTC Spelling Bee. Students at Conerly Road Elementary School entered a poster contest in physical education classes for the Somerset Council for Drug and Alcohol Dependency.

The posters had to depict the theme "Choose to be Tobacco Free." The following winners received movie passes and a certificate from the Council: Ronnie Ratliff, Ashley Talbert and Chloe Usavage in third grade; Shana Giannotto in fourth gradel; and Jessica Cintron in fifth grade. The great effort award went to TTannah Armstrong. The posters will be on display for the month of April at the Somerset County Library on North Bridge Street in Bridgewater. Hillsborough Michael Norman Conroy of Neshanic was named to the dean's list, highest honors, with a perfect 4.0 grade point average at Western Maryland College in Westminster, Maryland. He is a senior graphic design major and a 1996 graduate of Hillsborough High School.

Only about 13 percent of the more than 700,000 students who took AP Examinations in May 1999 performed at a sufficiently high level to merit such recognition. Montgomery High School's David Wasserman took second place in the Veterans of Foreign Wars public speaking contest. There were 8,000 contestants participating through New Jersey.

He was selected as top in the Somerset County and represented the county at the state level. Wasserman took second place and was awarded $3,400 in bonds and scholarships. The Montgomery Players of Montgomery High School presented the musical "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the March 3 and 4. Grade 10 honor roll: KyrstinBar-tok, Megan Dowling, Rnstin Finelle, Samuel Indrawis, Wendy Ledford, Christina Markow, Richard Prass, Amy Rosenbloom, Devis Vargas, Courtney Wolfe and Doug Zheng. Grade 11 honor roil: Von Atien-za, Thomas Caruso, Marco Castellan os, Eddy Chacon, Kristy Cherne-ski, Lindsay Cherneski, Rosie Claros, Ryan Dowling, Stephanie Hofer, Aziel Madrid, Quynh-Ahn Nguyen, Laura Price, Gisella Rodriguez, Brandon Slanker, Julyn Stay, William Tan and Fabiola Vil-lada.

The Bound Brook Presbyterian Preschool is now accepting registration for the 2000-2001 school year. The school offers both two and three-day classes for 3- and 4-year-olds and a Pre-K Plus program for young 5-year-olds. There is also a Mommy and Me program for children 18 months to 2 12 years. Branchburg Allison M. Schwarz of Branchburg was named to Fairfield University's dean's list be selected, a student must attain a grade point average of at least 3.5 of a possible 4.0. Schwarz graduated from Somerville High School and the daughter of Pat and Lou Schwarz. Franklin Rebecca Ammos of Somerset was named to Susquehanna University's dean's list for the 2000 spring semester. To qualify for the list, students must achieve a minimum 3.4 grade point average out of a possible 4.0 for the semester, while completing a minimum of 12 semester hours.

She is the daughter of Victor and Anne Ammos. Recently, Jim Beck, the head -custodian at the Conerly Road School in Franklin Township, took time away from bis custodial duties to teach the gifted and talented fourth- and fifth-graders about the school's physical plant He gave the children a tour of the boiler room and explained the heating and ventilation system at the school. They learned about the gas-fired boiler, the water circulating pumps, water pressure and temperature, the main instrument panel and other aspects of the system. Beck also taught them about the -importance of the training he obtained to get his Black Seal License as a boiler operator and the many checks of the system he must perform to keep the system running smoothly. Finally, he showed the children the electrical system main panel, the electrical meter and incoming electrical wires, the incoming gas pipes and meter and the incoming water pipes and meters.

Beck was invited to teach the class by John Caputo, the science specialist at the school because he felt that the students needed to learn some very practical applications of science. Students at the Elizabeth Avenue School in Franklin have certainly been busy. During the month of January, the kindergarten classes worked on the letters and I. They also discussed zoo animals and made Mr. Z's Magic Zoo.

In addition to their many class activities and crafts, the students read the stories "The Black Cat," "Who Said Red," "Circles, Triangles and Squares," and "Ma Lein's Magic Brush." They also continued journal writing and rhyme words, graphing and estimating skills. The kindergarten class also studied the four seasons and even dressed bears in the appropriate clothing for their favorite season. The students also talked about their families and made their own family trees. This culminated in a big book entitled, "Family Fun." Meanwhile, in the first grade, students discussed the new year and the new millennium. In honor of the event, they wrote how they will try to have a good year.

They also spent time learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his dreams for all people. They shared their own dreams for the world and made a Martin Luther King mini-booklet. The first-graders also learned about the winter season and are currently finishing up a reading series on animals.

They continue to learn addition and subtraction facts, and they are starting a unit on geometric shapes in math.s Students in the second "grade completed writing activities related to Martin Luther King Jr. and also learned to count money. They are currently working on telling time. The third-graders are learning multiplication and are practicing lots of games to understand the concept of "repeated addition." In their language class, some students wrote persuasive letters to a newspaper editor and others read novels. Science students have learned about measuring matter through use of a balance, a graduate and an evaporation experiment.

One social studies class learned about the early history of our country and Montgomery The Montgomery High School Guidance Office has announced that the following students have been identified as National Merit Finalists: Christopher Conlon, Laura Leslie and Brian Wong. The PSAT scores of these students placed them in the top half of 1 percent of all students who took the test and makes them eligible to be considered for a Merit Scholarship Award. Twenty-one students at Montgomery High School have been named AP Scholars by the College Board in recognition of their exceptional achievement on the college level AP Examinations. Students honored include already graduated seniors and members of the class of 2000. The college board recognizes several levels of achievement based on the number of year long courses and exams.

Scholars of Distinction included Jyoti Agarwal, Brice WHEEL recently concluded an internship working with school psychologists at Colonial Hampton Intermediate Unit 20. She currently attends Lafayette College in Easton, where she is a senior. The work was part of her class in advanced applied psychology, an internship based course for juniors and seniors majoring or minoring in psychology. Fenster said the internship reinforced her determination to go on to graduate school and obtain her doctorate in psychology. Her goals include becoming a school psychologist and specializing in child care and school child psychology.

Fenster graduated from Hillsborough High School. Barbara Szabo, music educator at the Hillsborough Middle School, hosted a master class led by Dominic Mantuano, a professional tenor, on Jan. 12. The class consisted of all middle school boys enrolled in the Hillsborough Middle School Choral Program. As a professional tenor, Mantuano has performed concerts nationwide, including Broadway and has recorded his first solo CD entitled, "Second Star to the Right."
