Reid was granted a divorce in district court yesterday from Marilyn W. Reid. The couple was married May, 1942, in Seneca, Kansas. The defendant will receive temporary custody of the child, $30 per month child support, and $600 alimony. The charges were extreme cruelty.

Making Nice Recovery--Teddy Quackenbush, who underwent major surgery at the Lutheran hospitdi, was dismissed Monday and is reported to be making a nice recovery. Teachers Exams- The date for special teacher examinations has been set for Aug. 17, the superintendent announced today to renew expired certificates and to applicants for certain teaching positions. Mrs. Pansy Higgins Mikesell of New Castle, who spent a short time in Beatrice with relatives, has returned home.

H. Bruce and wife of Camp Fannin, are here visiting the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. Bruce of West Court street.

The Bruce's also expect their daughters, Mrs. Ruby Roe of Omaha and Mrs. Evelyn Slocum of St. Joseph, to arrive Saturday to spend the week end. S-Sgt.

Bruce and wife will return to Texas next Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence E. Hall of Shenandoah, spent the day in Beatrice yesterday making preparations for the school year.

They will reside at 617 No. 17th and will move to Beatrice around Aug. 1st. Mr. Hall is the newly elected instructor of manual training junior high.

Mr. and Mrs. D. Nicewonger of Pickrell were shopping in Beatrice Tuesday. Charles Ellis, son of Judge and Mrs.

C. B. Ellis, has returned home after spending a week at the Alfred Hurtz farm near Wymore. Rev. and Mrs.

Ross McCown and Mr. and Mrs. Merle Jones were in Fairbury Tuesday night to attend a Presbytery meeting called for the release of Rev. Hendrichs of the Alexandria Presbyterian church, who is going to Oregon. A picnic supper followed the meet- ing.

Maxine Pethoud and Edith Nor- leimore have gone to Walla, Walla, where they have employment. C. Vincent McFadden of Columbia, who has been a guest at H. E. Sackett home for the past few days, left for Denver.

The Gold Star orchestra entertained with several numbers. C. H. Harman of Beatrice showed some moving pictures of scenes of the northwest. The August meeting will be at the schoolhouse.
