History 1J Pastor's Study HEAVY WESTERN CORN FED BEEF OUR USUAL FINE QUALITY STEAK SAILS I Despite Everything, Makes Top 10 CBS HAS LINED LP SIR JOHN GIELGUD for a special adaptation of Chekhov's "Ivanov," a hit of the current London season which will have a limited Broadway run this spring. Sir John will play the title role and Claire Bloom will be his leading lady. CBS has also announced "Death of a Salesman" as a forthcoming television drama. T-BONE SIRLOIN ROUND CLUB ffiC 3 5 Breaded Ik, VealCullels With Purchase of 10 for M.00 By SANDRA HINSON You know, it's strange, ABC's "Batman" is scarcely a bit more preposterous than CBS' "Beverly Hillbillies" or "Green Acres." Yet the Great Avenger makes the newly rich Hillbillies seem like reasonable next-door neighbors, and the new farm couple seem like perfect sophisticates. Yet, there it is.

"Batman" made the top 10 rating in its first weeks on the air. Someone quipped that before its debut, no one ever wrote a bad show on purpose. Fans needn't worry, however. There's no danger they'll change the format any time soon. The factor that carries "Green Acres" week after week seems to be the) contrast between Eddie Albert's straight-faced sincerity and Eva Gabor's complete aloofness from reality.

It's that, and the good cast of supporting characters. A'vy Moore is a doll as the quibbling agriculture agent and Mary Grace Canfield plays Ralph Monroe, the lady carpenter with the man's name, with all the coquetry she can muster under the circumstances. Besides, it's fun to watch "Green Acres" just to see the clothes Miss Gabor wears. Why is "The Beverly Hillbillies" so popular? Who knows? Maybe everybody enjoys feeling smarter than the cast. SOON AFTER THE ANNOUNCEMENT that Fred Friendly had resigned as president of CBS News after a disagreement over the organization's news policy, CBS said it would provide live coverage of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearings today and Friday when Gen- Maxwell D.

Taylor and Secretary of State Dean Rusk are expected to testify. The network also will have a special program Friday night showing highlights from testimony of all witnesses to that date, including former Ambassador George Keenan. CENTRAL FLORIDIANS WILL have a good op. portunity to see CBS' distinguished news commentator Walter Cronkite when he appears as one of the contributors to Rollins College's 39th Animated Magazine, Sunday, Feb. 27.

The "publication," open to the public, will be offered at 2:30 p.m. in Knowles Memorial Chapel. BY POPULAR REQUEST, CH. 24 will repeat its program on music that Abraham Lincoln liked best. The program, a special musical offering commemorating Lincoln's birthday, will be aired Friday at 11:35 a.m.

on Orlando's educational television station. SPEAKING OF GOOD MUSIC, there's a new FM stereo station on the air from 7 a.m. till midnight every day. It's WLOQ broadcasting from the Langford Hotel in Winter Park. Find it at 103.1 on your FM radio dial.
