THE SUN, Sunday. November 9, 1930 CI! Jones, Sipe may stage aerial circus at Stadium today passing offense and the Colts fourth. The Colt ground game has gained 265 more yards than Cleveland's, but the Browns' passing game has picked up 470 more yards than Jones and company. The Colts have only one injury of note. Safelyman Lyle Blackwood is out with a pulled hamstring.

The Browns report that offensive tackle Doug Diekcn, who was helped off the field in the Chicago game with a knee injury, will start in order to keep his string of consecutive games, now 138, intact. The Colts and Browns have met nine times in the regular season and three times in playoffs. Cleveland has won six of the regular-season games, but the Colts are 2-1 in playoffs. but Jones can compensate for them. Back to the quarterbacks and why it should be an aerial battle.

Sipe has averaged 35 passes a game, while Jones is slightly behind with 30. There used to be a rule of thumb that said a quarterback who had to throw over 30 passes a game was leading a losing team. That no longer is true, Sipe has proven otherwise. The Cleveland quarterback isn't a picture passer. Sometimes his tosses resemble a wing-shot duck, but for the most part they seem to (all into his receivers' hands.

Jones, on the other hand, is a picture passer with the great arm and follow through. His passes are hard enough to dent a tank and even when he throws the bomb, the trajectory is flat. ting the pass rush," McCormack said, "they will be blitzing their linebackers as St. Louis did." A blitz that fails to sack or pressure the quarterback into throwing hurriedly leaves the defensive team open for not only a completion but a scoring completion. The four linebackers, who may or may not be used to blitz Jones, are outsiders Charlie Hall and Clay Matthews and the middle pair of Bill Cowher and Dick Ambrose.

Statistically, the Browns are last in the conference in defense against the pass, while the Colts are 11th in the 14-team AFC. Conversely, the Browns rate second in Jones knows what pressure by the defense means. In the St. Louis game he was sacked 12 times. The humiliating lesson served a purpose, for last week against a better defensive unit, the Baltimore line did not give up a sack.

Cleveland's pass rush has been subject lo some strong criticism by head coach Sam Rutigliano and that might be the whip that gets it rolling. The Browns use a 3-4 defense with Marshall Harris and Lyle Alzado holding down the ends and Henry Bradley in the middle as the nose tackle. That was the same formation used by both St. Louis and Kansas City, but K.C. didn't blitz, while St.

Louis did on almost every play. "I think because they haven't been get Herts "77i inexpensive alternative to fJau Cm Rnvina!" NFL standings Where they play today Colts vs. Cleveland. Memorial Stadium. 2 p.m.

COLTS, from CI ning back department," said Colt coach Mike McCormack. "They have Calvin Hill, Greg Pruitt and Charles White as halfbacks and we have Don McCauley, Joe Washington and Curtis Dickey." Hill, a Baltimorean, is the Browns' answer to "third-down" McCauley except for one slight difference. Hill comes in strictly as a pass receiver on third down, while McCauley is also used to run on short yardage situations. The Brown running backs can't touch Dickey in speed, but then again no NFL club can.

What the Browns do is hammer away for yardage, especially with the draw play. Mike Pruitt has an edge on Colt fullbacks Cleveland Franklin and Marvin Sims because of his experience. He has proven himself, while the Colt backs have yet to do so. The Browns have good veterans at the wide receiver posts in Dave Logan, considered Cleveland's top performer, and Reggie Rucker. The Colt starters are Roger Carr, Baltimore's best, and rookie Ray Butler.

If the wide receiving matchup is fairly even, the tight end spot is not. The Browns' Ozzie Newsome leads his team in receptions with 33, 22 more than Baltimore's Reese McCall. One bright note, however, is that McCall has been making some key catches recently and is now considered a sound receiver. "We probably wouldn't be starting Butler," said McCormack, "if we didn't have Bert at quarterback." His reasoning is that Butler still makes rookie mistakes, Salisbury State bows to Millersville State Millersville, Pa. (AP)-Robb Riddick rushed for 199 yards and three touchdowns to lead Millersville State to a 40-to-33 college football victory over Salisbury State yesterday.

Riddick, a senior, scored his third touchdown in his last carry in his last game for the Marauders, with no time remaining on the clock, to break the school's single-season rushing record with 1,100 yards. Another Riddick touchdown came on an 80-yard kickoff return. Quarterback Tony Bell paced the Seagulls, passing for two touchdowns and rushing 3 yards for a third. Bell completed 10 of 19 pass attempts for 167 yards, but was intercepted three times. The leading rusher for the Seagulls was Preston Lewis.
