1905. a Grand Jury Report. To the Honorable James Simon, Judge of the 19th Judicial District Court of Louisiana in and for St. Martin Parish. We, the Grand Jurors of the tl Parish of St.

Martin, beg leave to state that we have examined all violations of the laws of our State and Parish; and now submit true bills fou4q since our partial report and this our final repcrt. We are pleased to notice that there is a marked decrease of crime in this parish, which fact we attribute primarily to the high li- cease laws of our parish; and we are of opinion that the enforcement of the Sunday Law and Crap Law will further roduce the present low percentage of crime. Violations of the liquor licence law of the parish were brought to our attention by the Sheriff of this parish, which cases were disposed of by ordering the District Attor- tl noy to tile information in these cases. This Grand Jury is opposed to violations of the Sunday and Crap it Laws and will see that these laws are rigidly enforced. In the eu-.

forcement of the same and the car- rying out of this determination, 1 we most have the assistance of the executive officers of this parish. 8 This we have a right to expect, and doubt not that this assistance will be readily given. The Grand Jurors are of opi- tc aion that inasmuch as the Clerk's pi ofice is not permitted under the ul law to make charges against the parish in criminal that the Police Jury makes sufficient allowances to that office to defray for the stationery and necessary I blanke, pen, ink, or that the I Police Jury pay for these materials upon the approval of the Clerk as to the corrections of bills I tor. for the same. After a careful examination of I li.

the Clerk's office, we find that va- I luable papers and documents are I kept in a loose manner. This may I cause the loss of documents which are of incalculable value and which cannot be replaced. We recommend that the Police Jury have i these papers bound in book form. We have examined the Jail and find that considering how old and he delapidated the building is, that that jailer has done all that can be all done to keep it clean. We sugLte gest that the Police Jury establish I sanitary closets and water works in the jail; unless they shortly ex- pect to build a new jail.

at The Grand Jury is pleased to notice the repairs made to the Court room. We are of opinion li- that the improvement is one which will please all of the citizens of we the Parish. We hope that these improvements will be continued; ap and call attention to the cracked wall between the police jury room and the vault of the Clerk's office. to This wall is to protect the papers i from excessive heat, in case of fire, ed and should be repaired. The Grand Jury has not had the opportunity to visit the schools in different parts of the parish.

to They did, however, visit the High I school. The organization of that ap institution impressed very favorably the members of the Jury. 6 u- Everything seems to be working nicely; and we desire to compli', ment those to whom credit is due. he We have noticed that the High b. School building is much too limiA, ted for the large number of chil- dren in attendance.

The new system of working the public roads of the parish is still 0 1- too recently inaugurated to ex- al press an opinion as its effective- fa ness. Very Respectfully submitted, L. C. GAUTHIER, nt Foreman. or A Daredevil Ride often ends in a sad accident.

To heal accidental injuries, use Backe len's Arnica Salve. "A deep wound in my foot, from an accident," writes Theodore Schuele, of Co- lumbus, 0., "caused me great pain. Physicians were helpless, but if Bucklen's Arnica Salve quickly healed it." Soothes and heals burns like magic. 25cents at T. J.

-We are pleased to say that at of this term of Court just closed, the in- criminal docket was cleared with ted the exception of the case of Elus ing LeBlanec accused of murdering his ta- wife, whose attempted suicide by I ing cutting his throat prevented the aw- trial at this term. LeBlano is on won a fair way to recovery, and as soon fue as he is well enough to stand trial, ral special jury will be drawn and of he wall be given a speedy trial. to Judge Simon is of opinion that Mr. every accused is entitled to immeme diate trial, and justice demand the speedy trial of accused, if innoone cent they should immediately retbo gain their liberty, if guilty they should at once be sentenced and the parish saved the costs of keep. ing prisoners in jail for months, lr even years before they are brought er to trial.
