HI. S-10 5-10 4-1 10 54 HUMPHREY-The Flyers should Improve on last year's 2-18 record because five lettermen return and some tall underclassmen will get playing time. Coach Dave Marron will start his second season as head basketball coach after three seasons as assistant. Filling the assistant role is Mark Berrens. Last year's leading scorer, John Fuchs, returns to play guard or, if needed, forward.

The 5-10 senior has earned second team all-conference honors two times. Jack Kessler was a starter at guard last year and the S-10 senior should combine with Fuchs to provide one of the con- ference's top backcourts. The frontcourt will be led by S-2 Mark Albers, a senior forward. Duane Wessel, 6-1, probably will start at center while, Al Zach, i-ll senior, can play forward or guard. Top replacements will be 6-3 junior Alan Huettner, Steve Priester, a 5-9 junior, and 6-2 sophomore Ken Fuchs.

Marron, a Wayne State graduate of 1974, stated, "We hope to improve on last year's record, but we face a tough schedule. We will need help from the taller players coming up." The Flyers are a member of the Mid-State Conference and Marron forecasts Elkhorn Valley and Norfolk Catholic as the favorites. Serving as hosts for the Humphrey St. Francis Holiday Tournament, the ml Flyers hope the Dec. 28 and 29 ST.

Season previews Schuyler girls SCHUYLER-Schuyler will have another good basketball team this year but this story is about the Lady Warriors. After directing the team to 8-2 and 11-3 records the last two years, Coach Roger Ham- mond could have another powerful team.

"The loss of 6-1 Sue Kobza and 3-11 Jane I.angemeier will hurt but we should be much quicker over all," Hammond said. "Deb Mueller will help in that aspect. Julie Klynn and Kim Egr should lead the scoring again. Kim Novak and Dori Van Arsdel hope to take up the rebounding slack. The schedule is tough with four qualifiers of a year ago plus Seward." Flynn, 5-8 senior guard has won three letters in basketball and has been the leading scorer the past two years.

Hammond rates her an excellent shooter and ball handler. Egr, 5-8 senior forward, was the second leading scorer last year. Both started last season. Other letter winners on the squad are seniors Novak, 5-9 forward, 5-9 forward-center Van Arsdel, and 5-6 guard Brenda Connerley. The Lady Warriors must wait until Dec.

Besides Johnson and the three starters, letter winners are Donna Larson, 5-7 senior forward; Lori Rosenquist, 5-7 junior guard; and 5-8 junior guard Sally Rafert. Bchne has been coaching 22 years, compiling a 341-120 record. But it will take a lot of his coaching ability to stay at that winning percentage.

The East Butler basketball team has only one returning starter and lacks height. Behne's only player over six foot had a knee operation and is questionable. The Tigers may start a lineup averaging under 5-10. But one of the players starting will be Roger Dolezal. The 5-10 senior guard has three years of ex- last year and is a defensive standout.

Two players who can play forward or center will help provide the rebounding and inside scoring and defense. Terry Sjuts, a 6-2 senior, started last year while 6-fl senior Dave Krings came off the bench and lettered. The Bulldogs again will rely on four-year starter Robb Alderson to provide leader- ship and outside scoring from his guard position.
