A De Loach Chardonnay OFS 1992 will accompany the confit of duck with roasted beets, Granny Smith apples, endive and grapefruit.

Roast rack of lamb with porcini mushroom risotto will be escorted by De Loach Cabernet Sauvignon 1991. Cecil De Loach, owner of the vineyards which he began 24 Harry's American Bar Partners Dan Weiss and Harry Hatch are about to open Harry's American Bar in the space which formerly held Charley's Aunt on Route 202 off the ShopRite Annex plaza in Bernardsville. The partners are planning a opening for late next week. Harry's American Bar will be a relaxed, comfortable restaurant. Weiss reports that they have made extensive changes in the restaurant's space, raising the ceiling and opening it up.

He adds that there will be a Southwestern flair to the decor and moderately priced menu. Patrick Madawela is the new restaurant's chef. He cooked at Branches and the Bernards Inn before leaving this area to cook at Bounty and Oceans in Long Island. Madawela will be cooking many dishes over a wood grill. Weiss adds that Harry's American Bar will offer jazz on weekends.

De Loach at Giraffe The wines of De Loach Vineyards in the Russian River Valley in California will be poured during a wine dinner at Girafe Restaurant on Friday, Nov. 11. Presented by the Tasters Guild, the evening presents six different De Loach vintages accompanying Chef Barry Squier's five course menu. After an aperitif of De Loach Sonoma Cuvee Chardonnay, Anew expansive patio, complete with a large gazebo welcomes diners and revelers at McAteers Restaurant and Caterers in the Somerset section ot Franklin.

The finishing touches are now being placed on the patio and its surrounding landscaping, but party goers have already begun making use of the outdoor facility. On a beautifully clear and warm recent Saturday evening, the patio was the scene for cocktails before a wedding celebration in one of the restaurant's banquet rooms. "The gazebo was decorated with flowers," says Felix Protos, owner of McAteers. "It was beautiful out here." The lobby of the restaurant leading to the three banquet rooms and restaurant has been completely redecorated.

A sophisticated space with marble flooring, wallpapers in rich brocades and carved wooden moldings now welcomes guests to the restaurant The three banquet rooms at McAteers can accommodate up to 500 partygoers. This is the Protos' 23rd year at McAteers. He now finds brides whose reception was held there years ago are bringing in their daughters to plan their weddings. "That offers me unbelievable satisfaction," he says. McAteers has planned a number of events which can add to your dining satisfaction.

On Friday, Nov. 11, the restaurant presents an evening of dining and dancing in its ballrooms beginning at 7:30 p.m. and featuring a 13-piece big band. The evening includes dancing to the sounds of the Stardust Big Band with a lead singer and a prime rib dinner including fresh fruit, house salad, coffee, and dessert. The all-inclusive cost of the evening of dining and dancing is $29 per person.

Call McAteers to reserve your place. Country music and dancing is also featured every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7 p.m. at McAteers. The evenings feature free dance lessons by Tom Hicks and Co. McAteers also features early bird specials, from 4:30 to 7 p.m., Monday to Friday and 1 to 5 Sunday.

The early bird specials offer diners a complete dinner for $9.95. Protos says the early bird specials present a complete choice of entrees including veal, fish and prime rib.
