Will Carey and four children came in last Thursday from Trinidad, for a visit with her mother, Mrs. One morning last week, I think It was Tuesday or Wednesday, the neighborhood was shocked upon hearing of the death of Mr.

Goodwin of Seligman. He went to a store to get some groceries the afternoon before. He was riding a horse and started to get on the horso to return home and it Wm. As the report cam'c to us. his head was crushed in the back.

He lived only a short time, a few minutes I think. This is as we were told. There were no other reports. He "was a stranger to people in this neighborhood but is highly spoken of by those who have-met him. He was married to Miss Alice Wyatt, daughter of John Wyatt of this community.

They were married just two months the day he was burled. They were living near Sellgman. Alice has the sympathy of all neighbui'U 111 Jiei bereavement Mr. Pritchard and family attended the funeral of Frank Woods of Neosho which was held near Southwest City last Sunday. Mr.

and Mrs. M. E. Benton of Higgens, visited the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs.

Tom Benton of McElhany, Saturday and Sunday, enroute to Wichita where Mrs. Benton will enter a' hospital, Tuesday. Fay McCaffree motored to Wichita with them and will visit relatives in Sedgwick and Butler counties. Berry picking was getting short on account of the dry weather. This rain may help them some.

Mr. and Mrs. O. H. McCaffree of McElhany entertained last Sunday for their daughter.

Miss Orpha, it being her birthday, June 7th. The guests were invited out at the noon hour to a table loaded with good things to eat to which they did ample justice. The guests were Verna and Ethel Rodney. Bertha Mae Stevenson, Fern Ed- rnisten, Dorothy Denny, Opal Fen- nlmore and Roy White. The afternoon was spent in a social way.

The guests left for their home? wishing Miss Orpha many more and pleasant-birthdays, GRANBY, ROUTE 8 Dr. Langley has been attending Mrs. Jess Doty who has -been suffering from asthma. She is some better at "this writing. Mrs.

and Mrs. H. T. Harrison, also Mr. and Mra V.

A. Lucas at Sarcoxie. Irene Smita of Neosho spent the week-end at home. Several from this community attended cow day at Granby. Mrs.

Ferguson of Oklahoma City Is visiting relatives In this community. Mrs. Elmer York was in the home of Listen, Monday afternoon. Mrs. Ed Shipman was a Neosho visitor Tuesday 'afternoon.

Several from this community attended sales day at Neosho. The Rev. Geo. Kelly of Pierce City will preach at the Clear Creek Baptist church next Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Everybody invited to take part in these services.

Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Pipkin are visiting the latter's sisters, Edith Hutchlnson and Mrs. Henry Slankard. Mr.

and Mrs. Lawn Jones spent Monday with their daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Crawford. Mrs.

Joe Lowe and son, Glen and Mrs. Jack Pipkin were entertained Thursday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Troxel. Mr.

and Mrs. Everett Stamper were week-end visitors at the home of the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Roberts. TTII 1 flu IB spending a few days in the home of Mr.

and Mrs. Amos Reynolds. A surprise party was given Monday night in honor of the birthday of B. Henry. Those present were: Mr.

John Ratliff and family and Mr. and Mrs. Bent Parmley and family. All departed at a late hour wishing Mr. Henry many more happy birthdays.

and Mrs. Ted Williams and small daughter were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. R. W.

Tener of Neoaho, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. M. M.

Hess moved the first of the week to Crane, Mo. Mr. Hess has been employed-as superintendent of the Crane schools the coming year. Mrs. Nora Lero of Kansas City entered the Cardwell hospital for treatment Thursday of last week.

Mrs. Rebecca Forgey of Powell is spending this week with her niece, Mrs. Charley Hinton and Mr. Hinton. Mr.

and- Mrs. Ted Wallers of near Racine visited Sunday with the hatter's Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Garner. Dr.

Alva Ctark of that place, Sunday. Mrs. Ethel Jones and children are visiting relatives and friends of this place at present. Lewis Stark was in Neosho on -businessr-Monday. Mrs.

O. H. Akin is on the sick list. Mr. and Mrs.

S. L. Hammons and daughter, Georgia Mae, and Mrs. Lottie West were dinner guests in the Elmer Stark home. Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Brown and children of Cassville visited with the latter's mother, Mrs. Ollie Hart, Sunday. Fred Stark was the dinner guest of Harrison Stark, Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Cavanaugh and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. George Laswell and son were picnicking in Pioneer, Sunday.

The men, who were staying at various homes in 'this neighborhood and "working- on the highway, left for their homes, Saturday. Mr. and Mra Guy Sutherland spent Sunday with the latter's niece, Mrs. Oscar Burr, and family of route 2.

The picnic given by the Klddoo homemakers Friday night was well attended. A bountiful supper was prepared and weiners furnished for' all. 1 The Methodist choir of Neosho held a welner roast at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Homer Beall at the Valley Mills, Monday night.

Miss Earlene Cam field spent last week In Springfield visiting her aunt, Mrs. Raymond Welsh and family. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Williams and son, Buster, spent last week-end at -Union City.

and Mrs. Bailey Stamps and Mr. and Mrs. Charley Stamps. Mrs.

Slier will visit relatives here several days before returning to Joplin. The Ladies' Missionary Society of the Wanda M. E. church met at the church Wednesday afternoon 'for their regular monthly meeting. A good attendance was present.

Mrs. Callie Bowers and daughters, Jewel and Mary Lee returned Tuesday from Tulsa where they Trad spent several days visiting another daughter of Mrs. Bowers, Mrs. Charley Campbell, and family. Jim Bertalotta of near Simcoe underwent a major operation' at the Cardwell hospital Saturday night and is doing nicely.

Vester Lowe and two children of Tulsa are visiting Mr. Lowe's parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. L.

Lowe. Other visitors in the Lowe hame Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Ben Dyer and family. Mr.

and Mrs. Merrit Collings and family of Republic visited Saturday with Mrs. Ceilings' sister, Mrs. Charley Hinton and Mr. Hfnton.

Mr. and Mrs. Collings expect to leave soon for Louisiana where they will spend some time with relatives. Miss Julia McPherson who has been sick the past two weeks at her brother's home In Kansas City was brought to the Cardwell hospital last Saturday for treatment. Her condition seems to be Improved at this time 1 H.

G. Camfield. Mra Ernest Paschall of 440 South Valley street received a telegram announcing the birth of a son, Cletus Richard, to Mr. and Mrs. Dick Weber of Flint, Wednesday, June 3.

Mrs. Weber before her marriage was Dorothy Land and is the daughter of Mrs. Paschall. the door hut were soared away by the dog that was sleeping In the house. Mrs.

Leon Allison Is visiting this week at the home of. her brother, Lawrence Naramore of Simcoe. Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Olson and baby have returned to.their home after a two weeks' visit with their respective parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Olson and Mr. and Oat Ellis. GRANBY, ROUTE 2 Several from here attended sales day in Neosho, Monday. Sam Smith and family of near Diamond were dinner guests in the Dave Hurst home last Sunday.

Joe Morton and wife and small daughter of Picher, were visitors in the Will Tink home Sunday. There was no Sunday school at Sunday, on account of so many being away picking berries. GREENWOOD COMMUNITY HALL The farm association meeting tonight was a success from every angle. The most Interesting report was from the agricultural committee. It was reported that general farm crops are fairly good, but that the dairy and poultry industries were suffering from low prices for their products and high- priced feed.

The strawberry may not prove as satisfactory as was expected doe to the break In the LONE STAR We are having a much needed rain. Mrs. Dan Cupps, Mrs. Will Cupps and Mrs. Holly Speak who -are sick list are some better.

Miss Grace Burner spent the week-end at home. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Ivie of Longston, visited last week with Mrs. Ella Patterson and family.

George House moved his mother last week to a house near Sweetwater. Mrs. Hurst of Granby visited with her sister, Mrs. Hester, over the week-end. Rev.

the sympathy of the entire community. We are sorry to have Mr. and Mrs. Truman Sims move from our neighborhood. They are visiting in Grantay at present.

A Slier and family of Granby moved Monday to George Sims' farm. Mr. and Mrs. Bud' Fergunon of Diamond spent Sunday afternoon in the Joe Hood home. of the week.

They are occopinr rooms at the Jenks flat. Little Phyllis Elayne, 4-year old" daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ted Williams of Oak Lawn farm, entertained a number of her friend's with a birthday party last Tuesday afternoon from 2 until ff o'clock. The little folks present to enjoy the occasion were: Maxine Pogue, Wendell Maness, Lentz and Helen Galbralth, Ilene Cole, Delilah Love, Julia Lola, Weems, Evelyn Faye Richardson, Naydene and Catherine Ward.

Betty and Wilma Jean Paul and Ralph Tener of Neosho. Each little guest brought a gift which was much appreciated by the hostess. The time was spent in playing games which each child entered Into with much enthusiasm and when they were played down they found plenty of ice cream.and< cake awaiting them which was served by Mrs. Williams, assisted by Mrs. R.

Galbralth. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Murphy who live near Christopher are announcing the birth of twins, a son and a Tuesday, June 8. Mr.

and Mrs. Horace Bowman entertained with a bridge party Monday evening in honor of Mr. Mrs. M. M.

Hess who left Tuesday for Crane. Besides those above mentioned the following Mead, president of the auxiliary, announced an Ice cream social for next meeting, June 10. for the purpose of raising some needed funds. There will be several' socials of like nature and at the last one the auxiliary will give away a fine quilt. From now until then with each ten-cent purchase a ticket will be given on the quilt.

Calvert spent week-end with John W. Walker in Home Park. Mr: Calvert is with the Barnsdall OfT Co. at Sklatook, Okla. Lonnie Strickland received a telegram Sunday 'from Tulsa, stating that her grandson, Claude Luna, who has been in a hospital for more than a week was seriously ill and for them to come. Mr. Strickland's son-in-law, Will Jeremiah of Lanagan, came and took them. Mr. Strickland and Mr.

Jeremiah returned home Monday, leaving Mrs. Strickland there until there was a'change the boy. Mr. and Mrs. A.
