SIX THE NEOSHO TIMES, THURSDAY, MAY 21, 1981 JOLLY Mrs. Mattie Cowan of Plerce City was pleasantly surprised Sunday with a dinner in honor of her birthday -Several from this place attended and report an enjoyable day and went away wishing her many more happy birthdays. The boys' 4-H club met Friday evening at Center Point and ranised after having some difficully in getting together but at last they have their club organised and will meet again Friday afternoon. The giris' 4-H club met yesterday afternoon with Miss Nora Slankard. Mrs.

Ollie Gordon visited last week -end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. P. Adams of Butterfield.

A new visitor arrived at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George Nelson, last week, a daughter. A. 1 K.

Kelly picked 14 boxes of Aroma berries, Monday, and took them to market. PIONEER Mrs. Lloyd McMillen gave a surprise birthday dinner in honor of her father's 69th birthday, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs.

T. H. Wormington of Neosho and Lena Stark who has been with them for several weeks visited in the Lewis Stark home, Sunday. Lena remained with home folks and Lois returned with them for a week's stay. Mildred, Mabel and Ruth Wagner were dinner guests in the J.

G. Coatney home, Sunday. Rev. Levi Ray filled his regalar appointment Sunday at 11 o'clock and Sunday night with a good attendance. Grandma Stark visited with Elmer Stark and family, Sunday.

Mrs. Lelah McMillen is on the sick list. Mr. and Mrs. W.

S. Francis visIted in the Harper home, Sunday. A large crowd gathered at Pioneer, Saturday night, and gave Mr. and Mrs. Martin a Charivari as he was married to a Mrs.

Clark last Thursday. All enjoyed eating ice cream. Aunt Jane Shannon fell in her yard Tuesday evening and bruised herself up considerably. Her daughter, Mrs. Tina Gibson, and two grandchildren, John and Naomi Gibson of Picher are with her.

ROUTES 2 AND 3 Mrs. Sid Dukes, after spending 8 few days in Arkansas with her brother who has been sick, returned to her home here Saturday evening. Dorothy Worthington had the misfortune of spraining her ankle several days ago but is now able to get around with the ald of crutches Misses Eva Rodney and Dorothy Denny spent the afternoon last Wednesday with Della Litton. Miss Leovicy Smith took supper Sunday evening with Louise, Ada and Edith Surridge. Mrs. Elmer Smokewood and two children, Darrel and Anna Laura, spent Monday with her sister, Mrs. Elmer Smith, and family. Mr.

and Mrs. Elmer Smith called on Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Slaughter, Sunday evening. Bob Harmon went to Joplin, Saturday, after some different varieties to replace in the store.

Strawberry crops are looking good and the showers we had Monday night and Tuesday are Just what was needed to help them grow larger. Myrtle Strickland and Lillie Smith spent a few hours Sunday afternoon with Grace Brown. Mrs. Myrtle Strickland transacted business near Goodman the last of the week and had good success. Leslie Smith went to Miami, Saturday, on business.

Pierce home last Sunday. Mr. Torrey will be eighty-seven years of age next Sunday. He has always been A very active man and has been operating a small fruit farm near Goodman until the last year. Not being able to care for the farm as he should he left the farm and is now living in Goodman.

We received the announcement of the graduation of Floyd McCart, second son of Mr. and. Mrs. Joe McCart of Seibert, May 21. Floyd was a small boy when the family left here for Colorado to make their home.

His parents are both well known in this neighborhood. Mrs. McCart before her marriage was Miss Diana Bratley. We were pleased to hear of his success in his school work. We considered him one of our small friends and would say to him to keep in mind his class motto, "It is the race that counts." Mrs.

Chester Cope who died in Joplin last Wednesday was buried at. Oakwood last Saturday. -She was a stranger here but her husband is a relative of the Cope families living here in the neighborhood. Mr. and Mrs.

Keeton of Neosho were visitors at the T. A. Robins home last Sunday. Herschel Courtier expects to go to Kansas City tonight to take an examination tomorrow for pension. LONE STAR Mr.

and Mrs. Lafe Cupps and family and Mrs. Silas Graham and children visited relatives here last week. Ruth House is visiting with George House and family this week. Hugh Babb is back on his place after spending some time in Oklahoma.

John Turner and family and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Cupps visited at Alpha Elmore's, Sunday. Fern Babb is getting along nicely. She has had tonsilitis and rheumatism.

Mr. and. Mrs. Claud White and son of Pittsburg spent Sunday at Charley Burner's. Mr.

and Mrs. Jimmie Sears have had as their guests Mr. Sears' two brothers, Billie and Arthur. Mrs. Hallie Speak, Mrs.

Willie Cupps and Mrs. Dan Cupps are on the sick list. Mr. and Mra. Oren Wheeler have returned to their home in Iowa after visiting relatives here.

Mr. and Mrs. John Armstrong entertained about twenty boys and girls at a dinner party Sunday in honor of their daughter, Ella's 13th birthday. Mr. and Mrs.

Sidney Thurman spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Holmes.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewls Giger entertained several friends with a musical party Saturday night. The musicians were John Smith, Ell Lynn, Sherman Neece and Mark Carrick, violinists; Luther Padgett, guitar, and Charlie Bailey, mandolin. Mr.

Padgett and Mr. Bailey are from North Carolina and are visiting friends in the community. Little Norma Jean Giger of Sarcoxie spent Sunday with her father, Riley Giger. They spent the day with her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs.

Fred Giger, Luther Padgett and Miss Wanda Holmes spent Sunday evening at the Ed Burkey home. The United Gleaners met with Mra. John Smith, Thursday afternoon. The meeting was opened with einging and prayer led by Mrs. Lewis Giger.

Mrs. Harmon gave two good talks on the benefit derived from our extension agent. The club voted to give $10 to the fund necessary to raise for Miss Browning. Bulletins were ordered from Columbia for each club -member present. The club will meet with Mrs.

Frank Boyer next meeting. CHRISTOPHER CHRISTOPHER City is visiting her mother, Mrs. Caughn. Ralph Ivie of Tipton Ford is a visitor in the home of Mr. and Mrs.

Vard Ivle. Shewmake of Picher was visiting in this community, Sunday. Misses Ruth Burge and. Christine Jennings called on Helen Hamidy, Sunday. Mrs.

May Reynolds is spending a few days with her mother, Mrs. Pete Renner who has been ill for some time. Mr. and Mrs. Vard Ivie are moving on the Shewmaker place west of Christopher.

Rev. T. Farmer of Granby preached at the school house Sunday morning and night. He will preach every third Sunday of the month. Everybody invited to come out.

Miss Christine Jennings who has been visiting her sister, Mrs. M. E. Spencer, has returned home. Bernard and Melvin Devereaux of Carman, are visiting in this community and are going to work in the strawberries at Lyons, at Oak Grove.

Rev. Rue Porter, pastor of the church of Christ of Neosho, will begin- singing school Tuesday night, May 19. He will also preach May 24 at 11 a. m. and 2:30 p.

m. Dinner will be eaten on the ground. Everybody ig invited to attend the preaching and singing, also Sunday school at 10 o'clock every Sunday. SILVER MOON Mrs. Thelma Eslinger of Wilbur Riggs is driving a new Ford truck which he recently purchased.

We regret to hear that Mr. and Mrs. Truman Sims are making plans to leave this community and go to Arizona to live. Miss Verna Love who teaches school in Colorado is spending her vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs.

W. H. Love, and family. Miss Nellie Allen spent Thursday night with her sister, Mrs. Arthur Riggs.

George Allen and Freda and Jack Kelly of Granby visited Sunday afternoon with J. P. Allen and family. Shirley Gene Evans who has been attending high school in Neosho has returned home for tire summer holidays. Lillie, George and Jack Murphy visited Sunday at Floyd Winchester's.

Harry Barton is enjoying a visit with relatives from Crawford county, Kans. Miss Ershal Mahan spent day with Misses Sarah and Georgia Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Mervin Spencer and family and Johnnie Jennings of Neosho spent Sunday with their parents, Mr.

and Mrs. Eli Jennings. Mr. and Mrs. Merritt and children, Ruth and George, called on Mr.

and Mrs. Floyd Winchester and family Sunday afternoon. The Sunbeam 4-H club met Thursday, May 14, with Shirley and Lillie Murphy. Quite a number of the young people from Oak Grove attended church at Barlow, Sunday night. MONARK' SPRINGS (E.

Freeman and son of Bartlesville, spent the week -end at the Klein farm home, "Robin's Rest." Little Louise McGlassion of Coffeyville, is spending part of this week with her grandmother, Mrs. E. L. McGlassion. John Henry Ebbinghaus and Bertha Freund were guests at the Trenk home, Sunday.

Next Sunday, May 24, Sunday school will be held at 1:30 p. followed by preaching by Rev. Wm. Cady of Neosho. Harry Crow and hig father spent Thursday and Friday in Springfield.

8. A. Frost of Granby visited at MonArk last Thursday and looked over the park and was well satisfied with the work done, so far, -by the committee and the club. Mr. and Mrs.

and Mrs. A. Whipple. The pie supper given by the MonArk Improvement Club was very satisfactory, the proceeds amounting to $10.01. We want to thank Mr.

Robert Pogue at Avilla. HAPPY HOLLOW Funeral services for Mrs. Irene Crim, 57 years old, of Denver, conducted by the Rev. I. V.

Stevenson were held at 3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the home of her son, Broce Hines of route 2, and burial made in Maness cemetery. The body, accompanied by Mrs. Vina Covert, a cousin, arrived Friday night and was taken to the funeral home Saturday morning. Saturday morning the body was taken to the home of her son. Mrs.

Crim WAS born and reared in the Five Point neighborhood but left here some time ago to make her home in Colorado, hoping that the climate would be beneficial to her. She had been in comparatively good health for the past few months and news of her critical illness came as a shock to her son and many friends. On May 12 a message came telling of her death caused by pneumonia. She is survived by her husband, B. W.

Crim, the son above mentioned and two grandchildren. One son and one daughter preceded her in death. Many friends, including old neighbors, were grieved to hear. of her death. Severat from this community attended a revival meeting at the Barlow school house Saturday night.
