Harllee actually selected President Kennedy from Harvard University as a PT boat officer, thereby setting up the fateful chain of events that followed in the life of John F. Kennedy. ADM. HARLLEE was designated chairman of the FMC in August 1963. He was appointed by President Kennedy to be a member of the Federal Maritime Board and took office August 1961.

His present term expires next June. From October 1961 to January 1963, Adm. Harllee served as vice chairman of the new commission under the rotation system adopted by the commission for that office." He retired from the Navy 1959. He is the son of Mrs. Ella F.

Harllee and the late Brig. Gen. William C. Harllee U.S. Marine Corps (retired).

The U.S. Naval Academy graduate was stationed at Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941, and during World War II he commanded Motor Torpedo Boat Squadron 12. Adm. The distinguished officer was the recipient of the Silver Star and the Legion of Merit (with Combat V) during World War II. FROM 1147 to 1148, he served in the Navy's Congressional Liaison Unit. The following year he com manded the destroyer, USS Dyess which won the an nual divisional competi tion.
