THE DAILY HERALD VICKSBURG, MISSISSIPPI, SUNDAY, MARCH 17, 1901 3 DEATH OF CAPT. JOHN W. WORRELL. After lying in a weak and greatly enfeebled condition in his rooms at the Hotel Piazza for a long period, Capt. John W.

Worrell breathed his last at 9:45 last night, passing away as if he had fallen asleep. Alt an early hour in the evening It was apparent to his physicians and those about him that his end was near, se and that it would be impossible to survive the night. Capt. Worrell had been in falling health for many months, his condition having become soy as to render it impossible for him to attend to business of any kind. He had sought relief and cure at Waukesha and other health resorts, but all to no avail, the seeds of disease having been too firmly implanted in his system to be overcome.

Capt. John W. Worrell was born at Columbus, in 1841, and had just passed his sixty-first year. He served through war between the states, entering the Confederate service as a member of the Columbus Rifles, of which his brother, Capt. W.

O. Worrell, was in command. He served throughout the war, receiving severe wounds at the battle of Murfreesboro, from the effect of which he never fully recovered, and was a member of Camp 32, U. C. V.

He- has been for years a resident and merchant of Vicksburg, and a member of the firm of W. O. Worrell and while his health and strength permitted always took an active interest in public affairs. At the time of his death he was a member of the board of trade, and was a regular attendant at the board meeting9. He leaves two brothers, Capt.

W. 0. Worrell, of this atty, and Mr. Charles Worrell, of Birmingham, who is a few years re his junior. Two sisters also survive him, Mrs.

Donahue, residing in Texas, and another sister at Columbus. The death of this estimable man a and good citizen will be very deeply regretted by all who had the privilege of his acquaintance, and those who by his death are bereaved may be assured of the heartfelt sympathy of many friends. The remains were conveyed to the home of Capt. W. O.

Worrell on East Grove street, where they reposed last night. From there they will be conveyed to the A. V. depot to be carried Ito his old (home at Columbus, where he will be buried in the old family ground in that city. Funeral services will be held at 4 o'clock this afternoon at the residence of Capt.

W. C. Worrell, the Rev. Dr. Samson, officiating.

The funeral party will leave for Columbus on the 9 o'clock A. and V. train tonight. His brother, Mr. Charles Worrell, of Birmingham, has been telegraphed for, and will arrive by the early train from the east this morning.

The Herald unites with many friends in extending condolences to Capt. Worrell and his estimable family in their bereavement.
