I City of St Cloud Valentine's Day SEEKING OUT A NEW SOCIAL LIFE It's almost like being a teenager again. awkwardness, the shyness. For the widow, returning to a normal social life after a period of mourning can be most difficult. After all, she has spent her married years as part of a couple. We have a simple suggestion that may make the transition a little easier.

Why not look first for group activities ones that aren't built around couples? Choral groups, continuing education, even political and civic activities allow the widow to re-enter the social whirl without feeling like an outsider. A newly unattached person may find that she's now free to pursue interests that her husband wouldn't have enjoyed. That's a spirit of opportunity and pleasure that she can cultivate. And there's an additional benefit to pursuing those pleasures: self-confidence. A sense of accomplishment can do wonders for a person's outlook and make the transition to a full and active social life a little bit easier.
