Attending a retirement dinner for Frank Smagecz at Peony Park, Omaha, Monday night were his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Bill Smith; his nieces and husbands, Mr. and Mrs. John Stachura and Mr.

She will be a guest at the home of the Friedrich- Wilhelm Buschking family in Nienburg, a city of 35,000 located about 30 miles nor- thwest of Hannover. The Buschkings have two children: a son, Thomas, 17; and a daughter, Sabine, 16. Barbara has completed two years of German at Lakeview and says she is looking for- ward to getting to know German people on a personal basis, one of the purposes of the Lions Club Eschange Program. As well as par- ticipating in daily family life, students are able to visit points of cultural and historical interest. Barbara is the daughter of Mr.

Referendum vote urged Platte County Livestock Feeders President Leland Nelson urges all beef and dairy producers to register to vote in the upcoming beef "As of Monday' afternoon, there were 80 registered at the Platte County ASCS Office," said President Nelson.

Extension club meets for picnic PLATTE CENTER Members of the I Extension Club met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Janssen for a family pot luck picnic Sunday. The group made plans for a stand in Platte Center for the July 4-celebration. The evening was spent at cards and socially.

No meetings will be held during July and August, the next scheduled meeting will be September 14 at the home of Mrs. Francis Hennessy when election of officers will be held. Farewell Reception--A farewell AFF reception honoring Tony Treu and Val Schwartz will be held at the home of Wayne R. Davy, No. 41 Stires Lake, Thursday, 7:30 p.m.

Friends are invited. Patient--Ernie Evans had surgery on Thursday and is in St. Joseph Hospital, Omaha, Room 541. Covered Dish Picnic--All members and wives of Izaak Walton are invited to a covered dish picnic Monday, 7 p.m., at the cabin. Barbecued wieners, buns and drinks will be furnished.

BOMAN-Friends and relatives received word Monday of the death of a former Creston resident Josephine E. Boman of Ulysses, Kan. Formerly Elizabeth Steenis she was bom in Creston Sept. 12,1890 and attended District 58 School.

Funeral services were held in Kansas. PATOCKA-Services are pending for Albin Patocka, who died Tuesday in Grand Island. Mr. Patocka is a former David City resident. Knott Funeral Home, David City, is in charge of arrangements.

NEHLS-Johnny A. Nehls, 81, died Sunday at his home near Ulysses. Funeral ser- vices are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, near Garrison. JAKUB--Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m.

Friday for Willis P. Jakub, 36, Brainard, who died Monday at Bryan Memorial Hospital, Lincoln. Rev. Gerald Vap will of- ficiate the services at Dwight Assumption Church. Burial will be in the Assumption Cemetery.

The body will lie in state from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thur- sday at Holesovsky Mortuary, Brainard. An 8 p.m. rosary will be prayed at the church Thursday.

Mr. Jakub, a farmer, was born Dec. 11,1940, to Pete and Verna (Sedlak) Jakub, Brainard. He was educated in Brainard schools. Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Mrs.

Larry (Bonnie) Lueders, Seward, and Mrs. Gary (Marilyn) Kudlacek, Grafton; two brothers, Marvin and Dwayne, Brainard; and his grandmother, Albina Jakub, Lincoln. Commonwealth set to condemn Amin Film Festival begins June 16 NEWMAN 'GROVE There will be a Christian Film Festival co-sponsored by the Shell Creek Lutheran and Rosehill Evangelical Free Church of Newman Grove from Thursday until Monday, June 16 to 20. Roy Hope, singer-evangelist will be here with his family for a concert in the city park on Thursday beginning at 8:00 p.m. followed by the film "Whispering In case of rain the concert and film will beheld at the Shell Creek Lutheran Church.

Women's Club had luncheon NEWMAN GROVE-The Newman Grove Junior Women's club held the 10th annual Salad Bar at the Zion Lutheran Church. Guests were members of the senior women's club. A special decorated cake marked the anniversary. Miss Susan Kappelmann, Nebraska Public Power, gave the demonstration on micro wave ovens. Mrs.

Dallas Van Aukerof Norfolk, President of Madison County Women's Clubs installed the officers: Mrs. Roger Lyon, President; Mrs. Carmen Eucker, vice president; Mrs. Kevin Thompson, secretary; and Mrs. Verne Buhl, treasurer.

Extension Clubs The June meeting of Har- mony Home Extension Club was held at the home of Mrs.

Susie Bower. Mrs. William Sprunk, reading leader, opened the meeting and a lesson was given on "Our Flag How to Display and Respect It." Mrs. Willis Loseke read a report on a sugar substitute. Mrs.

Walter Bruhn, president, announced the club would work on the fair booth at the July meeting and then read the leader training lessons for 1978 and members voted on them. The July meeting will be at the Mrs. Willis Ixseke home. The Country Mixers Extension Club members and children met June 2 at the Grant Grotelueschen home. The club honored Jo Grotelueschen and infant, son, Justin, with a baby shower.

The group presented the mother and child with a gift. All enjoyed the lunch, which included a decorated cake brought by club mem- bers. By JOSEPH W. GRIGG LONDON (DPI) Com- monwealth leaders meeting here have agreed unanimously to make a public condemnation of President Idi Amin's regime in Uganda, conference spokesman Nicholas Harman said today. He said the agreement was reached at a private session this morning the second in two days attended only by delegation chiefs without aides, officials or press spokesmen.

He said their condemnation will be included in the conference's closing com- munique to be released late today. Harman refused to disclose precisely what the com- munique will say. He did say, however, that it will not mention Amin by name but will mention Uganda. Earlier several countries, including Nigeria, had refused to join in public condemnation of Amin in his absence. Harman refused to say whether these countries had withdrawn their earlier objec- tions.

But he did say there was "total agreement on a form of words." He said this was Church school completed LEIGH-St. John Vacation Church Scool ended its two weeks session Frdiay mor- ning. There also was a solid agreement to "discourage," though without actually ban- ning, sports contacts with South Africa. Scottsbluff voters turn down proposals SCOTTSBLUFF, Neb. (UPI) Voters soundly defeated a proposed $650,000 new fire station and 250-acre wilderness park in a special election Tuesday. The final tally showed 1,652 voted against the fire station and 758 for it; 1,858 voted against the park issue, 516 for it. Opponents of the fire station criticized its cost, although in last year's election a proposed $900,000 fire station fell only 38 votes short of approval.

Park supporters said the wilderness park would have preserved plants and animals, but opponents, mostly lan- downers, did not want to give up their property. Earns degree at Bellevue Over one hundred seniors received bachelor of arts and bachelor of fine arts degrees from Bellevue College, Bellevue, during com- mencement ceremonies Saturday. Among those graduating Saturday was Mrs. Zita May Holzbach, who received her bachelor of arts degree in psychology. Mrs.

Holzbach is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Euteneuer of Columbus. She is a 1965 graduate of St. Bonaventure, and is married to Air Force Major Robert Holzbach.

Mrs. Holzbach graduated magna cum laude. 4-Hers earn blue ribbons Seven members of the Trailsmen 4-H Club were among the 200 contestants attending the Horse Judging Contest and Clinic held at Pitzer Arena with Howard Pitzer as host, on Monday. The senior division team, composed of Kelly Person, Tiffany Legenza and Deb Hamernik, earned a blue ribbon, ranking third of the 18 teams entered. Deb Hamernik earned a first blue in the senior division, ranking seventh out of 94 entrants.

In the junior division, Lisa Thomazin also earned a blue ribbon. Dr. R.B. Warren discussed the classes and presented a workshop on calf and team roping. BERNT-Anna P.

Bemt, 82, died this morning at Annie Jeffrey Hospital. Osceola. Formerly of Shelby, she had been a resident of an Osceola rest home since 1975. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Shelby, with Rev.

Anthony Trausch- of- ficiating. Burial will be in Shelby Catholic Cemetery. The body will lie in state from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Kepner-Roberts Funeral Home, Osceola.

An 8 p.m. rosary Thursday also will be held at the funeral home. She was born March 23, 1895, to Ferdinand and Elizabeth (Latzel) Schindler in Holt County. She married Edmund Bernt on Feb. 10, 1919, in Columbus and they farmed in the Shelby area.

Mrs. Bernt was a member of the St. Ann Altar Society and Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She is survived by her husband, Edmund, now of Osceola; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Werning, Anchorage, Mrs.

Josephine Rotcrt, Omaha, and Mrs. Tony (Clara) Kerkman, Shelby; four brothers, Fred and George of Neligh, Joe, Ewing, and Otto, Elgin; and many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Bernt preceded in death by two children, Joseph Edmund in 1936 and Betty Ann in 1937; one sister, Elizabeth; and three brothers, Rudy, Bruno and Adolph. Lutheran Women met Thursday NEWMAN GROVE-The Shell Creek American Lutheran Church Women met Thursday at the church with Mrs.

Willard Anderson in charge of the program. Mrs. Arvid Jenson led in devotions and a duet composed of Adelc Anderson and Julie Johnson sang two number with guitar self-accompaniment. Mrs. Don Munger gave the Bible study.

Mrs. Marlond Benson presided. A report was given on the serving of the alumni banquet. Plans were made for Norwegian Days to be held in July. Mrs.

Lloyd Eng was dinning room hostess. Serving were Mrs. Raymond Nelson and Miss Nora Nelsen. A a services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Thursday for Earl M.

Peckardt who died Monday at the Boone County Hospital. He was a resident of Wolf Memorial Home, Albion. Services will be held at, Levander Funeral Albion, with Rev. Ron Cole. officiating.

Burial will be in, Rosehill Cemetery, Albion. The body will lie in state, today. Mr. Peckardt was born June 12, 1904, to Jacob and Bella (Hartsock) Peckardt. He married Emma Irwin on March 1, 1940, and was a lifetime Boone County; resident.

Survivors include three nephews, Roger Woods, Howard Sallach, Albion, and Duane Woods, Long Pine; and two nieces, Jesse Brookhousen, Omaha, and Lila Schroeter, Lincoln. He was preceded in death by his wife. Pair leaves for Missouri CRESTON-Mrs. Jennie Wardenberg and her daughter Mrs. Dwayne Buchendahl of Pierce left Wednesday for California where they will visit relatives for several weeks.

Sunday guests of Mrs. Eva Claussen were Mrs. Millie Miller of Atkinson and Mr. and Mrs. Tony Hanus of Omaha.

The Happy Hour Club was hosted by Mrs. Louise Johannes Tuesday. Mrs. Ves Hollatz was hostess to the Legion Auxiliary at her home Tuesday. Mrs.

Don Kallweit ac- companied Mr. and Mrs. Paul Scheffler to St. Louis Sunday to visit relatives. Kenneth Krings returned Sunday from Lincoln where he had attended Boys' State.

REUNION CRESTON-June 24, 25 and 26 are the dates set for the reunion of the Barrett, Gor- man and Belknap families in Madison. a Joseph Kudron, 53, a native of Tarnov, died Sunday in St. Joseph Hospital, Omaha, after an illness of one and a half years. He had lived in Henderson, Iowa, the past 25 years. He was born July 21,1923, to' Michael and Josephine Kudron.

He married LaVon Brockman in Tarnov on June 1, 1947. Mr. Kudron was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, Imogene, Iowa and Dinglinger Post No. 530, American Legion of Hen- derson, Iowa.

He was a World War II veteran, and worked as a farm hand. Funeral services were held 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Imogene, Iowa, with Rev. Gerald Deere officiating.

Graveside military rites were conducted by Dinglinger Post No. 530 American Legion and burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Imogene Iowa. An 8:30 p.m. rosary was held Tuesday at Nelson- Boylan Chapel. Survivors include his wife, La Von, Henderson, Iowa; mother, Mrs.

Josephine Kudron; Columbus; three sons, Michael, George, San Diego, and Phillip, Emerson, Iowa; two daughters, Mrs. Charles a Macedonia, Iowa, and JoAnn Kudron, Omaha; one brother, Arnold, Lindsay; seven sisters, Mrs. Toni Birdwell, San Antonio, Mrs. Mary Ann Thompson, Mrs. Margie Rinkol, Columbus, Mrs.
