0 Miami back Sammie Smith, who had 189 yards in last year's classic 26-25 loss with Miami, was held to 6 yards rush Bowden 47-0 in his second game. The Seminoles had not been held to less than double figures in a regular-season game since 1981. ing. "Everybody had a grudge after what happened last year Sammie and the Florida State team ran up and down the field on us," Miami linebacker Randy Shannon said. "After the first snap, we knew we had it," defensive end Willis Peguese said.

'It was a tough game but it seemed too easy." Florida State had not been blanked in blanked Bobby It does not get any more impressive than this. The Hurricanes are 6-0 this decade against No. 1 teams. They have won 33 straight regular-season games. They had 17 players drafted orsigned by the NFL off last year's champions, had to replace all that talent, yet took a feared Florida State offense and turned it into hamburger.

The Seminoles had six turnovers. They never got closer to scoring than the Miami 30. Ail-American running When it was finally over in the Orange Bowl, when Florida State had lost its first opene in 12 years by a country mile, this much seemed clear: Miami may have been ranked only No. 8 last but the Hurricanes are the team to beat. It was expected to be a showdown to the wire, a gtime of the year.

It was 17-0 at halftime. Western St 32, Fort Hays SI. 29.
