4 MONDAY. OCTOBER 7, 1996 THE SALINA JOURNAL AT WORK FROM PAGE 3 named Taco John's "1996 Manager of the Year" for the five- state area which includes Nebraska, Texas, Iowa, South Dakota and Kansas. She received her award this month at the chain's annual Regional Meeting in Lincoln, Neb. Lewis manages the Taco John's restaurant located at the Central Mall in Salina. The restaurant is owned by Ken Rinke of Salina. Taco John's "Manager of the Year" award is based on customer service, food quality, restaurant cleanliness and sales. Winners are selected by senior managers at the chain's national headquarters in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Lewis started working for Taco John's as a crew member and worked her way up to manage the restaurant. During the award presentation she was praised for her efforts in employee relations and her ability to communicate effectively with her employees and her customers. KANSAS ASSOCIATION OF HOMES AND SERVICES: Flavel Simcox received the Life Achievement Award from the Kansas Association of Homes and Services for the Aging at their annual awards luncheon on Sept. 26 in Manhattan. The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes administrators or volunteers whose work has exemplified lifelong dedication to serving the elderly. Simcox became involved in ensuring friendly, secure living environments for the elderly more than 25 years ago when he and his wife, Louise, participated in a capital campaign to build the Salina Presbyterian Manor. For the past six years, he has served on the Advisory Board for the Manor, including a two- year term as chair. "He never refused a request to serve on any kind of committee," said Fran Paxton, administrator of Salina Presbyterian Manor. "He has demonstrated that he is dedicated to promoting the welfare of humanity by a sustaining commitment to serve the elderly." Board of Trustees of Presbyterian Manors of Mid-America, Wichita, the parent company of 17 Presbyterian Manors. Last July, he was appointed as chair of the Board of Trustees for two years. This position requires a willingness to spend many hours conducting the affairs of a large, geographically dispersed system. KAHSA is a statewide association of more than 150 not-for- profit nursing-facilities dedicated to providing services that will enhance the quality of life for senior Kansans. Also during the award luncheon, Salina Presbyterian Manor was presented with the Recognition Award. The award is given to association members receiving five or less nursing-care deficiencies on their annual survey by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The awards luncheon was part of KAHSA's fall conference "Platform for Change: Elect Diversification!" Broadway, has been presented an engraved plaque recognizing them as a premier hardliness dealer in his market area, and saluting the store's commitment to its customers.
