PM C-4 The Orlando Sentinel, Tuesday. April 27 198? Phone worker files 1 more civil rights suit By Jim Leusner Police beat Tip leads to arrest of 3 on drug charges By Laura Santos-Berry OF THE SENTINEL STAFF OF THE SENTINEL STAFF requests to transfer him. David said he requested the transfers because of allergic conditions that made his l'fc-year-old son ill and because his wife was earning lower wages in Florida. He then threatened to file another complaint. David said he finally accepted a $50,000 out-of-court agreement in August not to sue, work for or file action against or any of its subsidiaries again.

Since then, however, David has alleged that he has been unable to get a job because of poor references from his former employers. "Nobody wants to hire me because there is a cloud," David said Monday. officials were unavailable for comment Monday. "Any and all complaints Mr. David had with Michigan Bell Telephone or were resolved by way of a voluntary settlement several months ago, and there's absolutely no basis to the complaint," said Michigan Bell attorney Tony Haisch.

Telephone company officials, who asked not to be identified, said they attempted on numerous occasions to appease David but were unsuccessful. David's attorney during the settlement, Jack Gardner of Southfield, said David later filed a complaint against him with the Michigan State Bar Association, but the attorney was exonerated. Out of work after 2 settlements, man sues for $10 million While in Michigan in 1975, David said he was promoted to a secretarial position and demoted two weeks later because the company's district manager did not wish to have a "dark-skinned male Indian working for him as his secretary," the suit says. David filed a complaint with the federal Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in Detroit, but the complaint was dismissed by a federal judge. He appealed the ruling and later was reinstated at Michigan Bell after reaching a $675 out-of-court settlement.

Two years later, he filed another complaint with the commission alleging that the company discriminated against him by not promoting him. After he approached Justice Department officials about his case, David said, Michigan Bell softened its stance, promoted him and transferred him to Orlando office. Assigned as a document processing specialist in the company's antitrust division, which David called a "glorified clerical job," he said the company placed him under surveillance and refused numerous An Altamonte Springs man with a history of claiming ethnic discrimination on the part of his employers filed a civil rights suit against American Telephone Telegraph Co. and a subsidiary Monday, claiming they discriminated against him because of his race and age. Talakkottur R.

David, a 41-year-old native of India, filed the suit in U.S. District Court in Orlando asking for $10 million in damages. He claims he was under duress last August when he resigned his job at Michigan Bell Telephone Co. and its parent company. He also has asked to have his job reinstated and to receive an unspecified amount in back wages, benefits and attorney's fees.

David, who is acting as his own attorney, worked for Michigan Bell from 1974 to 1979 before being temporarily assigned to Orlando office in 1979, the suit says. In a wide-ranging complaint, David outlines allegations of racism, the "fixing" of a case by a federal judge in Detroit and harsh treatment and threats from his employers. Two men and a woman were arrested on drug charges Saturday after Orange County sheriff's undercover agents received a tip that a man wanted to trade methaqualone tablets for a pistol. Investigators said they handed over a pistol for tablets from a man on South Orange Blossom Trail, then went to the man's home where they found two other persons and about 11,000 methaqualone tablets with a street value estimated at $27,500.
