Recorder Society recaptures history's sounds The recorder, the chief flute of European music for some 800 years, will come to lyrical life during the March 30 meeting of the Somerset Hills Recorder Society. Classes for beginning and intermediate players will be available at the 8 p.m. meeting Choric Quintet by Hans U. Staeps. The recorder, or beaked flute, has eight finger holes, and was popular from the 11th to 18th centuries in Europe.
