The accident occurred more than a year after state police ordered a crackdown on truck drivers who park" along the shoulder of Interstates 80, 78, 280 and 287.

A Woodbridge man was killed in-November, 1987, when his car ran into the back of a tractor-trailer, parked on the shoulder of Interstate' 287. A month earlier, three people-were killed in one week on Interstate 80 in the same type of accidents. State troopers were told to awaken drivers who park along the shoulder, of the highways and direct them tor" the nearest truck stop. The closest truck stop to yesterday's accident is about 20 miles away, police said. But police have been unable to solve the problem.

"We're trying to catch up with said Sgt. Harry Vanderberg. "There's no place for them to pull over, but we can't have them on the side of the road, either." By ROBIN SIDEL Courier-News Staff Writer WARREN A Pennsylvania man killed in an accident early yesterday morning died when the truck he was riding in crashed into a tractor-trailer parked on the side of eastbound Interstate 78, police said. Dennis Beckey, 29, of Lebanon, was a passenger in a small truck driven by Daniel Bieber, 28, also of Lebanon, said Sgt. Mike Trupkiewicz of the state police barracks in Somerville.

Bieber was in fair condition yesterday at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Police believe that Bieber may have fallen asleep and his truck swerved to the right side of the road at 1:38 a.m., smashing into the tractor-trailer. The driver of the tractor-trailer, 38-year-old Ronald Miller of Illinois, was uninjured in the accident, police Dr. Carl C. Pfeiffer, medical researcher PRINCETON Carl C.

Pfeiffer, Ph.D., M.D., 80, died Friday (Nov. 18, 1988). Dr. Pfeiffer was born in Peoria, 111. He received his bachelor's degree in chemistry in 1931 and his doctorate in pharmacology in 1935 at the University of Wisconsin.

He received his medical degree from The University of Chicago in 1937. He also served as a lieutenant in the Navy during World War II. Dr. Pfeiffer was a leader in studying the biochemical aspects of schizophrenia, migraine headaches, allergies, autism, and other metabolic diseases. He discovered pyroluria, a double deficiency of zinc and vitamin B-6; histadelia, a mental illness caused by a too high a level of histamine; and histapenia, a condition of low blood histamine caused by excess copper in the tissues.

Dr. Pfeiffer was a member of many professional organizations, including the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, the American Society for Experimental Biology and Medicine, the American Association for Advancement of Science, the American Medical Association, the New York Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Neurology and the Association for Research in Nervous and Mental Disease. He was director of The Princeton Bio Center in the Skillman section of Montgomery since its founding in 1971. While he was past president of The American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, he was most noted as a nutritionist in the field of trace elements, vitamins and mental disease. Surviving are his wife, Lillian Pfeiffer; a daughter, Helen Pfeiffer Newton of Los Alamos, N.M.; a son, Edward C.

of Trenton, and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m. at Unitarian Church of Princeton, Route 206 and Cherry Hill Road. Plainfield man charged with dealing cocaine Michael M. Markus, amateur radio operator SOUTH PLAINFIELD Michael M.

Markus, 64, died yesterday (Nov. 21, 1988) at his home here. He was born in New York City and had lived in South Plainfield for the past 37 years. He was a senior technical associate for Bell Laboratories in Holmdel for the past 33 years. Mr.

Markus was a 1949 graduate of New York State Maritime College at Fort Schuyler in the Bronx, where he earned his bachelor of science degree in marine science. He served in the Navy during World War II and was a lieutenant in the Naval Reserves, retiring in 1972. He was a licensed amateur radio operator since 1966, using the call letters K2RMD. He was a member of the Air Force Military Affiliate Radio System, serving the Central Jersey area as a net manager and using the call letters AFA1YW. Mr.

Markus was also a member of the American Radio Relay League and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a past member of the Tri-County Radio Association, the New Jersey VHF Society and the South Plainfield Music Booster Club. Surviving are his wife, Mary J. Donahue Markus; three daughters, Mary Lynn Landers of Oregon, Melinda Freeman of Pine Island, N.Y., and Margaret Franklin of Burgaw, N.C.; a son, Michael E. of North Brunswick; two sisters, Julia Caffrey of Long Island, N.Y., and Stella Porto of Bloomingberg, N.Y., and five grandchildren.

Arrangements are by McCriskin Home for Funerals in South Plainfield. Angelina M. Nittolo NORTH PLAINFIELD Angelina M. Nittolo, 67, died yesterday (Nov. 21, 1988) at home.

Mrs. Nittolo was born in the Bronx and had lived in East Orange and Maplewood, moving to North Plain-field five years ago. She was an inspector for 21 years at Elastic Stopnut Corp. in Union, retiring 10 years ago. Surviving are her husband, Ralph Nittolo; four sons, Louis and Dominic, both of Woodbridge, Joseph of California and Ralph Jr.

of Middlesex; a daughter, Patricia A. Kant of Middlesex; two brothers, Frank Nitti of Cedar Grove and Joseph Nitti of Orlando, two sisters, Margaret Emerson and Antoinette Nitti, both of Roseland; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Arrangements are by Middlesex Funeral Home. The Rev. Kevin Kaminsky, administrator of St.

Joseph's Church in Rar-itan Borough, was an associate of Father Wade's at St. James Church from 1978 to 1981. He said Father Wade was behind a major expansion of the church in downtown Basking Ridge. "When he arrived at St. James, the church was in bad shape," Father Kaminsky explained.

"The roof had caved in and it was too small. It was Father Wade's idea to move the church further out of town where he could acquire more property." Father Kaminsky said Father Wade wasn't satisfied to let his work end with a new church and saw to it that a church school and rectory were built at the South Finley Avenue site. Father Kaminsky added that Father Wade also discussed purchasing part of the nearby John Jacob Astor estate and turning it into a retirement home, before the estate became the township's municipal complex. According to Father Kaminsky, Father Wade loved Broadway musicals and the two men would travel frequently into New York City to see the latest play. Father Wade retired in 1981 and moved to Point Pleasant.

Surviving is his sister, Margaret d'Anjou of Fair Haven, Mass. Arrangements are by Reams Funeral Home in the Whitehouse section of Readington. McKinley 'Mack' Allen, Johns-Manville foreman PLAINFIELD McKinley "Mack" Allen, 80, died Saturday (Nov. 19, 1988) at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center here. Mr.

Allen was born in Charlottesville, and had lived in Plainfield for 50 years. He was a retired foreman at Johns-Manville Corp. in Manville and a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Plainfield. Surviving are a friend, Mary Thompson of Plainfield; three daughters, Mary E. St.

Cyr, Robin Brown and Valerie Seymore, all of Plain-field; a son, William McKinley Allen of Oakland, his mother, Fannie Yancey of Plainfield; four sisters, Clara Page of East Orange and Laura Shipley, Susan Fields and Mary Briddle, all of Plainfield; four brothers, John Yancey of Plainfield, Charles Yancey of Piscataway, Joseph Yancey of the Bronx and Walter Yancey of Westfield; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Shaw 73, died Sunday (Nov. 20, 1988) at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Mr. Shaw was born in East Orange, but had lived in Cranford for the past 41 years. He was president and owner of Woodlawn Tree Service in Cranford.

Mr. Shaw was past president of the New Jersey Arborist Association and past president of the Cranford Lions By TEK TALMONT Courier-News Staff Writer PLAINFIELD Two pounds of cocaine, three cars and two guns were seized in a raid Friday that resulted in the arrest of a 53-year-old city man on drug dealing charges. James Richard Thomas was arrested at his home at 836 W. Fourth St. after a search of his home by members of the Union County Narcotics Strike Force and the city's Narcotics Division.

Sgt. James J. Durkin of the county agency said an opened kilogram package still containing two pounds of cocaine was found concealed in the ceiling of the basement at 830 W. Joseph A. B. Wade, 74, a former longtime pastor at St. James Church in the Basking Ridge section of Bernards, died Sunday (Nov. 20, 1988) at Margaret McCarrick Care Center in the Somerset section of Franklin.

He was born in New Bedford, and had lived in Point Pleasant for seven years. Father Wade graduated from Holy Family High School in New Bedford in 1933. He attended Providence College in Rhode Island and Lady of the Angel Seminary at Niagara University in Niagara, N.Y. He was ordained a priest on June 3, 1944 at St. Mary's Cathedral in Trenton.

He was an assistant pastor at St. Rose of Lima in Freehold, Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bernardsville, Our Lady of the Lake in Medford, St. Joachim in Trenton, Sacred Heart in South Plainfield and St. Peter's in New Brunswick. Father Wade served as administrator of St.

James Church in Basking Ridge from 1957 to 1960. From 1960 to 1981, he was the pastor there. Aristotelis Pelios, 83, owned luncheonette SNYDER, N.Y. Aristotelis Pelios, 83, died yesterday (Nov. 21, 1988) at Veterans Hospital in Buffalo, N.Y.

Mr. Pelios was born in Albania and had lived in Plainfield and Somer-ville before moving to upstate New York five months ago. He owned Mary Ann's Luncheonette in Plainfield for 13 years, until 1967. Before that, he worked as a chef at Palace Restaurant in Brooklyn for 10 years. From 1967 until he retired in 198 he worked as a chef at Bill's Restaurant in Plainfield.

Mr. Pelios was a member of St. George's Greek Orthodox Church in Piscataway. His son, Dr. Angelo Pelios, died in July.

Surviving are his wife, Sophia Pelios; two daughters, Victoria Ber-trand of Snyder, N.Y., and Fran Pap-pas of Pelham, N.Y., and 10 grandchildren. With the new owners will come a new name Repetti's at the Bridge-water Manor. The restaurant has been owned by William Sayre Sr. of North Plainfield for the past 32 years. For most of that time it was operated as a full-service restaurant; recently, its business had been restricted exclusively to banquets.

Within two weeks, the new owners, the Vizzoni Group of Keriilworth, plan to reopen a full-service restaurant there, said AI Branchi, managing partner. The new menu will feature continental cuisine, fresh seafood, veal and pasta dishes, Branchi said. Mr. Burnett was born in Warren, where he lived all his life. He was a self-employed farmer and a member of Wilson Memorial Union Church in Watchung. Surviving are his sister, Ethel B. Leffert of Watchung; a brother, Robert W.

Burnett of Auburn, and several nieces and nephews. Arrangements are by Higgins Home for Funerals in Watchung. Barbara Ann King, 61 WESTFIELD Barbara Ann King, 61, died Sunday (Nov. 20, 1988) at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Mrs.

King was born in Newton Center, and had lived in Westfield for the past 30 years. She was a director of public relations for the former Lincoln Federal Savings in Westfield for 20 years. Surviving are her husband, Walter G. King; a son, Stephen D. of West-field; a daughter, Lisa Ann Cialone of Summit, and a sister, Jean Byrne of Darien, Conn.

Mary Popik Puha, 92, was South Plainfield's last Gold Star Mother SOUTH PLAINFIELD Gold Star Mother Mary Popik Puha, 92, died yesterday (Nov. 21, 1988) at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. She was born in Austria, Hungary, and came to the United States in 1917, settling in South Plainfield. Mrs.

Puha was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of American Legion Chaumont 243 of South Plainfield. She also was a member of the South Plainfield Senior Citizens. She was a member of St. John's Greek Orthodox Church in Perth Amboy and was past secretary of the South Plainfield branch of the Greek-Catholic Association. Mrs.

Puha was believed to be the last surviving Gold Star Mother in South Plainfield. Her son, Michael Puha, was killed in World War II in Belgium. A street in the borough is named after him. Another son, John Puha, died in 1940. Her husband, Charles Puha, died in 1937.

Surviving are three sons, Charles Puha of the Toms River section of Dover Township, George of Bound Brook and J. James of South Plain-field; two grandchildren and a great-grandson. Arrangements are by McCriskin Home for Funerals in South Plainfield. William Woodland, 46 BOUND BROOK William "Woody" Woodland, 46, died Sunday (Nov. 20, 1988) at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville.

He was born in Somerville and had lived in the Flagtown section of Hillsborough before moving to Bound Brook 15 years ago. Mr. Woodland was a mechanic for 28 years at Crossroad Trucking Center in Bridgewater. Surviving are his wife, Marie Woodland; three sons, Richard Mann of Bound Brook and Billy and Danny Woodland, both of Kutztown, three daughters, Sheryl Kotora of Flagtown, Duella Woodland of Kutztown, and Cindy Gunzelman of Bound Brook; his parents, George and Bertha Woodland of Lonaka Harbor; two brothers, Ray of Hollywood, and George of Scott Run, and five grandchildren. Margaret Honeychurch PLAINFIELD Margaret Powderly Honeychurch, 80, died Sunday (Nov. 20, 1988) at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was born In Liverpool, England, and had lived in West New York before moving to Plainfield 13 years ago. Before retiring in 1970, she was a tester at Belfuse RCA Products in Jersey City for 20 years. Her husband, Harold Honeychurch, died in 1979.

Surviving are two sons, Howard Honeychurch of North Plainfield and Vincent of York, Pa.j a daughter, Kathleen LaPlace of Piscataway; two sisters, Mary Batiz of West New York and Theresa Cote of Weehaw-kin; four grandchildren and a greatgrandchild. Arrangements are by Piscata Club. He was a member of the Men's Garden Club and the Cranford Policemen's Benevolent Association. He was a communicant of St. Michael's Church in Cranford.

Surviving are his wife, Fern Snyder Shaw; two sons, Stephen of Cranford and Sylvanus IV of Tucson, four daughters, Merna Comstock of Springfield, June Gregory of Caramel, Donna Torrisi of Cranford and Adele Callanan of Fleming-ton; a brother, Robert of Marathon, a sister, Dolores Romanoski of Lakewood; and 15 grandchildren.
