a page 4- the -Home Buyers' Guide Friday, May 1, 1987 Housing briefs By Cynthia Hellerman Stone Dutch Colonial site of LaFayette recovery EAST AMWELL After he was wounded at the Battle of Brandywine during the American Revolution, General Marie LaFayette spent two weeks recovering in Ringoes at the home of Henry Landis. The stone Dutch Colonial-style home on Old York Road had been built by Landis around 1747, and its exterior remains much the same today as it did in the 18th Century. It now sits on a lot which includes an in-ground pool and cabana. The seven-room home has four bedrooms, one of which was used by LaFayette. It is said that Gen.

George Washington visited LaFayette there during his recuperation. LaFayette later fought at the Battle of Monmouth and was present at the British surrender at Yorktown, Va. Ruth Ann Mummey of ReMax of Flemington, the listing agent, says the current owners have completed the paper work so that future owners could apply for landmark status and the home's inclusion on a register of historic places. The house has been listed at $269,900. Brokers' open houses will benefit charity Electronic Realty Associates brokers in the New Jersey-Staten Island area are contributing funds to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.

The contribution will increase with the number of people who sign a guest book during ERA Open House Weekend, which starts tomorrow. Houses open for tours during the two-day event will be listed in ERA advertisements. A check from ERA will be presented to the association on Labor Day during the annual Jerry Lewis telethon. This stone house built in the mid 18th century housed the Marquis de LaFayette as he recovered from his wounds suffered during a Revolutionary War battle. George Washington is said to have visited the French general here in Ringoes.

Banker or broker? An association explains What's the difference between a mortgage banker and a mortgage broker? A mortgage banker and a savings and loan, bank or other financial institution? The Mortgage Bankers Association of New Jersey has begun an education program to explain this difference to potential home buyers and those considering refinancing. Joel Brotman, a member of the association's executive committee, explains: Mortgage bankers are private companies that originate and close mortgage loans in their own name. Unlike banks and other financial institutions, they do not accept public deposits. Therefore, they must use their own funds in making mortgage loans. Mortgage brokers do not originate mortgage loans using their own funds.

A mortgage broker will find a lender for a prospective borrower for a fee. He or she may perform Deer Path Estates models feature computer systems READINGTON High-tech has come to Hunterdon housing.
