The order of Chosen Frieuds-of Houston are preparing to give a grand picnic and parade at Volksfest pork, in Houston, on Jane 23. They have invited the members of the order iu Galveston to participate with them, nnd it is probable that qnite a number of Galvestonians will accept the Invitations.

The Lucky Holder. The citizen of Galveston holding the one- twentieth of ticket No. 90,448 which won the $300,000 cs.pitnl prize in the quarterly drawing of the Louisiana lottery on Juno '13 was Mr. George Seibeir, a- clerk the Gulf, Colorado aijd Santa Fe genera! office The ticket entitles Mr. Seibert to $15,000 He was the subject of general congratula- tioiiycsterday by his menus.

$60,000 won through tho Galvecton aaency represented by Mr. J. D. the last two drawings -of this lottery, which shows that tha tide of luck-is ftimlmc'lu this direction. The Democratic Coayetttion.

A Galveston county de.rae-cratie convention will bo held to-night at Turner hall for II.B purpose of selecting delegates the congressional convention, to be hald at Corpus Chfisti on-June SI, to nominate a candidate for congress for the Seventh congressional district; also to select delegates to a district convention to nominate a can-t for district attorney for the criminal net 1 court of Galveston and- Harris coun- 1 its. As far as THE NEWS has been- able to the convention to-night will bo harmonious, and 'will transact its business i a clock-work regularity. As to the congressional delegation it is a foregone 1 conclusion that it will be solid-for Cram. So far no convention baa been caHed-to nominate district attorney, and should Harris county full to select delegates for this there will be no convention held, and tne selection of delegates district convention to-night will be time thrown away. Slio only two counties entitled to representation in this convention are Harris and Galveston.

It has not been generally customary to hold a convention to nominate a candidate for tlie oHice of district attorney, though one was held at" the last election, which was the second convention of this kind ever held, the prevailing custom being for each county nominating convention to indorse a candidate for this office. Should a convention be held this year for the nomination of a district attorney Galveston county will be ready with her will be selecf- ed this evening. Should no convention, bo held the Galveaton delegates will have been electee! for no purpose. The convention if eld should bo held in Gaivcston, as Houston held the last convention called for this purpoue.
