By PETER KRAUSE Student Reporter NEW PROVIDENCE -Ceremonies for the 1974 graduating class of New Providence High School were held last Wednesday evening at Lieder Field. The outdoor ceremony was a change back to the tradition of many years ago. Diplomas were awarded to 296 seniors. The salutatory address by Nicola Wolfe reviewed the hard times now at hand, yet she saw the Class of 74 setting forth with willingness and caring. Mark Pitcock also recognized the hard times facing his generation.

In his novel speech, written as a letter to English teacher Dwight Bowd, he remarked that the privileged New Providence graduate such as he with "bank account, stereo, and Volkswagen fast-back" would not be apt to lay aside a lucrative future to Reading and Arithmetic Skills Grades 3-4-5-6 Junior High English and Math DAY CAMP K-1-2 RUTGERS PREPARATORY SCHOOL 1345 Easton Avenue, Somerset, N.J. 08873 545-5600 Summit High School holds commencement Klass, Scott Elliott Knox, Jaclyn Ann koll, Allan Frederick Krastin, William Collins Kress, Joy Lynn Kucher, Lisa Kurlant-zick. In the same vein, Valedictorian Boyd Mathews stressed the difference between real versus ideal in achieving goals, saying, "New Providence will produce generation after generation of people who will strive for the real, and not the ideal." Mayor Edward Bien, in offering his advice to the seniors, expressed the need for honest citizens in today's society, marked with political scandal and social crime. Superintendent of Schools John Berwick carried the point further, noting that "education without honesty and integrity is a waste of your many talents." Before the issuance of diplomas by William Humphrey, president of the Board of Education, the high school choir sang "My Lord, What a Morning" directed by vocal teacher Stephen Kramer.
