2 Ludington Daily News, Tuesday, March 18, 1969. Annual Masonic Roundup Is Held Here Saturday The 40th annual Masonic Roundup was held Saturday evening at the Masonic Temple. Upon arrival, guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Donald Braley.

Mrs. Martha Brozzo and Lloyd Sutler. Guests enjoyed a roast beef dinner served by members of Pere Marquette Chapter 327, Order of the Eastern Star, assisted by students of Ludington junior and senior high schools. Dinner music was played by Mrs. Henry Mottl.

Invocation was given by Robert A. Hockstead of Elk Rapids who is Grand Chaplain of Grand Lodge Free Accepted Mason of Michigan. A St. Patricks theme predominated in decorations throughout the dining area, including green satin hats with golden buckles, glittering shamrocks and green carnations. Green and white carnations with greens in white milk glass vases centered the tables at which guests were seated.

Green streamers and St. Patrick motifs completed the table arrangements. A large Leprechaun painted by Jack Haner and other decorations were suspended over the head table. Waiters wore green ties and waitresses were attired in green and white aprons made by Mrs. Damon Frederick.

Menus were green shamrocks with an Irish blessing. Favors for each guest were shamrock pins. Donald Braley, worshipful master of Pere Marquette Lodge 299, Free Accepted Masons, welcomed guests and visitors, and thanked all committees. Braley introduced his officers and their wives, Mrs. Martha Brozzo, Lloyd Sutler, worthy matron and patron of Pere Marquette Chapter 327, Order of the Eastern Star and their officers.

Other distinguished guests introduced included Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Hockstead, past grand master of Grand Lodge F. A.M.

of Michigan; Howard Jarrard, commander of Appollo Commandery 31, Knights Templar; Earl Paulsen, high priest of Royal Arch Masons 92; Oscar Johnson, ambassador of Saladin Shrine Temple and Mr. and Mrs. Donald Gallic. Gallic was master of ceremonies. Hockstead, guest speaker for the evening, gave an interesting account of his many experiences in Masonic travels to Washington.

Montana and various places in the Upper Peninsula. A program was presented by Mrs. Jane Anderson which included several dramatic poems by Edgar Guest. Accompanied by Hack Wilson on the piano, Mrs. Anderson sang several musical selections.

Many of the outstanding decorations were designed and created by Mrs. Damon Frederick, chairman of decorations. Her committee included Mesdames Frank, Dudley King, Laurence Erne, Harvey Nelson, Eugene Copenhaver, Charles Johnson, A1 DeShryver, Mabel Jenson, Jane Connelly, Rose Benson, Martha Brozzo and Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Sutter.

The dining room committee included Mesdames I. A. Iverson, Laurence Erne, John Ehler, the Misses Marlene and Karen Lewandowsky, Linda King, Rosemary Luhman, Barbara Bailey, Cathy Iverson, and Donald King, Steven Barnett, Roger and Marvin Rivers, Kim Stadler, Jan and Rob Amsterburg, and Bill Comstock. Mrs. Rose Benson was chairman.

The kitchen committee included Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Laufer and son, Peter, and Mesdames Mabel Jenson, Harvey Nelson, Elmer J. Nelson with Mrs. Sutter as chairman.

Later in the evening nine tables of cards were played with host and hostess being Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Johnson. A punch bowl was featured in the card room. High at pinochle were Mrs.

Roger Ewing and Gary Alberts. Second place winners were Mrs. Charles L. Frank and Frank Brye with Mrs. Frank Hansen and Charles L.

Frank receiving low. At bridge, Robert A. Hockstead placed high; Homer Hansen, second; and John A. Bleeker, low. A traveling prize was awarded to Mrs.

Stephen Godin Is Chosen Local 'Elk Of The Year' Stephen Godin has chosen "Elk of Ludington the Yew" of Lodge 736, Benevolent ft Protective Order of Elks. Godin, honorary life member, was chosen by a committee of been has been in charge of Christmas parties for children. He has become known as "Mr. Elk." He was awarded his nonary life membership in 1961. The committee, in choosing Godin, selected a member who Lodge officers to be the first recipient of the award locally.

Godin has been a member of Ludington Lodge since 1939, serving as secretary and house manager. He was auditing, Lapasation and membership committeeman for many years and served as chairman for Flag Day, Americanism and Memorial services for many years. Godin served on the Blood Bank procurement and Blood Bank program committees; was chairman of visitation of the sick committee for many years; was Lodge tiler and obtained so many new members that exact count could not be maintained. In addition Godin Recovery, Inc. Sets Program Several members of Recovery, will present a panel discussion during the fifth in a series of Family Enrichment programs at St.

Mary's School Hall In Custer Wednesday at 8 p.m. Recovery, Is a national organization devoted to the prevention of relapses in former mental patients and chronicity in nervous patients. Through a demonstration of this kind, the organization not only explains its systematic method of self-help, but demonstrates the method in action. The Grand Secretary's letter accompanying the letter read: "I am certain that the member chosen to receive this award Is an outstanding well-deserving Elk who has been and will continue to be, a credit to our Great Order." Godin will be honored this evening during the Lodge meeting at which time the presentation of the award will be made. Ludington Yacht Club, at clubhouse, at 7:30 p.m. Crystal Lodge 159, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, at Mrs. F. Kortge Dies Monday Mrs. Fred Kortge, 71, of Eden Township, was dead upon arrival at Memorial Hospital of Mason County on Monday evening.

Mrs. Kortge suffered a heart attack following the burning of the barn on the family farm. R. Beatrice Griswold was born on Dec. 28, 1897, in Eden Township.

She was married in 1921 in Ludington to Fred Kortge, who survives. She was a member of Scottville First United Methodist church. Mrs. Kortge was a teacher for 21 years, 16 years of which were spent in Mason County and five in the Grand Rapids area. She retired in 1960.

Mrs. Kortge had been a resident of Eden Township her entire life with the exception of several years spent in Scottville. Surviving in addition to her widower; four sons, Eulan of Elmhurst, 111., Corliss of route 1 Custer, Dean of East Lansing and Cleon of Clarkston; a daughter, Mrs. Donald (Clarice Ann) Gordon of route 2 Scottville; two brothers, Atwood Griswold of route 1 Scottville and Ross Griswold of Grand Rapids; a sister, Mrs. Charley Eppard; and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral Notices KORTGE, MRS. FRED Eden Township Funeral services for Mrs. Fred Kortge, who died Monday, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday from Stephens Chapel with the Rev. Bernard Fetty officiating.
