3 V' v. jr. THE COURIER-NEWS, Monday, June 1, 1970 27 2 Stations May End Operations -i Basking Ridge Villager Green Saturday at which Theodore Post Pnotos Dy Antnony Losarao was the site of Bernards Township Memorial Day services Malisky, post commander of Meilli-Card American Legion 114, was master of ceremonies. HAMPTON Notices have been posted by the Central Rail road of New Jersey that it wil seek permission from the state Public Utilities Commission to change the status of the Hamp ton and Annandale railroad sta tions from agency to non-agency for both freight and passenger business This means Jersey Centra would move the business offices of the two stations elsewhere and transfer their agents to other locations, if the PUC acts favorably on the application. It probably will mean tha the physical uses of those sta tions as waiting rooms for passenger trains will not be discontinued, but tickets would be purchased on the trains and commuter tickets would be is sued from the destination rail road offices.

The PUC has scheduled pub lic hearings on the two applica tions for June 10 at 10 a.m. in its offices in Newark Indications are that the pres ent business at the Hampton station, which now handles the business from the closed Ludlow-Asbury station, would be transferred to High Bridge Annandale business would be transferred to Whitehouse Sta tion, which now handles Leba non Borough business. The Lebanon station was closed in 1962. Annandale station serves as a center for commuters from a wide area who a few years ago formed an association and purchased from the railroad a one-acre tract adjacent to the local station, the site of the former freight house, for use as a parking place. Commuters from as far away as Allentown and Easton, Phillipsburg, Frenchtown and Milford use the station to travel to and from jobs in the city.

The Annandale station was first built when the railroad came through in 1853. The original station burned about 35 years ago and was replaced with the present one. The Hamp- ton station also is very old and since the railroad reached the VUlclgC 111 UlC ldlC lOiMJS. This would unblock an alley between East Main St. and Maryland Avenue, which has been cut off since March 21. A petition signed by more than 30 residents of these two streets, who use the alley on which their garages are located, was presented to the council more than two weeks ago.

It asked that Jakelsky be requested to complete the con struction and open the north end of the alley to use again by property owners there. The final hookup date was months ago for Jakelsky 's prop erty. Councilman Levi Hoffman, who also is municipal fire chief, asked for an amendment to the fire ordinance to permit 18-year- olds to join the two local fire companies, but not gain active status until 21 years of age, and to extend the maximum age limit membership from 35 to 40. Hoffman said these are the recommendations of the state Firemen's Association. Council Attorney Oscar W.

Ritten- house was asked to check on the legal status of the proposals. Police Chief Joseph Lacey reported he has frequent requests from outsiders for a bor ough street map. He asked that adequate directional maps of the borough be made up so they can be distributed at a nom inal cost to those seeking them. The council will ask Robert McEldowney, municipal engi neer, to provide a drawing suitable for this purpose and a local printing firm will be asked to prepare a supply. BABYSITTING.
