Jays' Carlson THE Wink Named New Grid Coach at TC A TVnvTTXTi HfTT Sign Contract With Cubs by Frank Farrington President George Budd today announced the appointment of Jack S. Wink as head football coach at St. Cloud State Teachers college. For the past four years Wink has been head coach at Stout Institute at Menomonie, Wis. He will take the place of Les Luymes who resigned after winning five straight conference championships at St.

Cloud. Luymes has accepted a position as athletic director at North Dakota Agricultural college at Fargo. In his college days Wink star- red at quarterback under Harry Stuhldreher at the University of Wisconsin in 1942, 1948 and 1947. He also played quarterback under Fritz in 1943 while attending the I'niversity uf.Mich-igan under the V-12 program during the war. In 1942 his Wisconsin team was second to Ohio State in the Big 10 and alternated with Ohio State for top ranking in the national football polls.

The 1943 Michigan team was first in the Big 10 and ranked third nationally. His 1947 team at Wisconsin placed second in the Big 10. As for personal honors, Wink was captain of the 1947 Wisconsin team and placed second on the all-Big 10 team for 194G. Since his graduation from Wisconsin with an M. S.

degree in 1948, Wink has coached for one year at New London (Wis.) high school, for three years at Wayne (Nt-l. State college, and for four years at Stout. He had one undefeated season at Wayne and his overall record there was 21 victories and six losses. Stout and St. Cloud have played each other during each of the four years Wink was coach there.

St. Cloud has been the victor three times out of four but in 1953 a Stout team that had not won a game spoiled an undefeated year for St. Cloud with a 19-7 victory. Wink's teams use the T-for-matiun and single wing with balanced line, the system that he himself played under Stuhldreher. St.

Cloud teams under I-es Luymes have been using the Split-T formation. Wink is 33 jears old, married, and has two children.
