Auburn ends Rebs' streak JACKSON, Miss. (UPI) Sophomore quarterback Randy Walls ran for one touchdown and passed for another Saturday to lead Hth-ranked Auburn to a 19-13 victory over Mississippi. Gardner Jett added a 43-yard field goal and Auburn also had a safety. Ole Miss, which had led 7-3 at the half, was down 19-7 late in the fourth period but junior quarterback Norris Weese directed the Rebels to one touchdown after a blocked punt and had a fourth-down pass knocked down at the goal with 46 seconds left.

Both the Rebels' scores came on passes from Weese to tight end Burney Veazey, one of them covering 38 yards in the second quarter and the other 10 yards in the final period. (UPD-Safety Darryl Bishop's 97-yard touchdown run after he intercepted pass Saturday night sparked Kentucky to a 17-13 Southeastern Conference win over Mississippi State. The fourth quarter sprint by Bishop proved to be the winning margin as Mississippi State struck back quickly, going 80 yards in three plays on the next series of plays. Kentucky held a 10-6 lead at the time of Bishop's interception on the strength of a four-yard run by Gary Knutson and a 19 yard field goal by Doug Sexton, both in the first half. Mississippi State scored on.two field goals by Glenn Ellis-one from 34 yards out and the other from 40. Following Bishop's score, Mississippi State scored on a 34-yard pass from Rockey Felker to Bill Buckley, and 23- yard runs by Lewis Grubbs, the last which put him over the goal line.

Kentucky then held off the visitors in the final ten minutes of the game to even their season record at 2-2 and raise their SEC mark to 1-1. It was the only the second conference win in three years for Kentucky. Mississippi State fell to 2-3 overall and 1-3 in the conference. Knutson led the Kentucky attack as the Wildcats stayed on the ground most of the game. The senior from Bethesda, gained 136 of Kentucky's 242 yards on the ground, carrying the ball 25 times.

Doug Kotar, who had been limited by injuries this season, added 67 yards in 20 carries for Kentucky. Grubbs carried the ball only eight times, but gained 74 yards for Mississippi State. Melvin Barkum, who rotated at quarterback with Felker, led Mississippi State with 76 yards rushing and completed eight of 14 passes for 91 yards. Felker hit on only four of 13 for 76 yards. Kentucky's James "dinky" McKay attempted only 10 passes, completing three for 41 yards.

The visitors outgained Kentucky 421 total yards to 282 yards, racking up 251 on the ground and 170 in the air. The win boosted the Demons' record to 4-1 overall and 3-0 in conference play.

Delta State's loss was its second straight after two wins, leaving the statesmen with a 2-2 season tally and 0-2 in conference play. The 12-0 finale ran Northwestern's series edge over DSC to 7-0. It was the first shutout the Statesmen have suffered since losing to Troy State in 1970. The blanking was NSU's first since 1967 when the Demons defeated Louisiana Tech. After battling to a 0-0 deadlock at the end of the first quarter, Northwestern cashed in on two field goals--22 and 37 yards--by Randy Walker.

That G-0 advantage carried into halftime. After the second half kickoff, NSU's Donald Johnson fumbled at the Northwestern 48 and Sammy Henderson recovered for DSC. Spassky believed he would beat Fischer MOSCOW (UPI) Boris Spassky said Saturday he believed right until the end that he would win the recent world chess championship against Bobby Fischer. The former champion, in an interview with the Soviet chess weekly "64," said he still cannot explain many of his mistakes which led to defeat. The Soviet grandmaster said after being awarded a point in the second game, which Fischer forfeited by not appearing, he was dominated by a sense of unfair advantage. "Spassky thinks that in the second half of thetnatch he played as he should have from the beginning and admits that until the very end he believed' that he still could defeat magazine said. It said Spnssky would enter climinntion tournaments for the right to face Fisher again in 1975 or challenge him sooner, should the opportunity for a rematch come his way.

Speaking of the Reykjavik contest, Spnssky said he lost opportunities in every game after the 14th--even obvious ones which occurred in the ir.th and 20th games. Four or five times, he said, he managed to break Fischer's lines and it seemed that one more effort and Fischer would begin to go to pieces. "But alas I found myself unable to strike the final blow, although I saw the moral bankruptcy of my adversary," Spassky said. "I lacked the nervous energy for such an effort." Spnssky praised Fischer for having "high technical skill, tremendous stamina and a fine sense of his partner's mood and physical condition." Nevertheless he said he did not have the feeling he was up against an "impregnable force."
