Wichita Sept. 26-28 Dole Will Speak at League Meet Sen. Robert Dole will be the featured speaker at the annual banquet of the Kansas League of Municipalities, aa over 700 city afficials gather for the league's three day convention in Wichita Sept. 26-28. Dole, Republican Party national chairman, will be one of thi-ee political figures present. Sen. Glee Smith, president pro lem of the state senate, and Sen. Harold Herd, Coldwater, state senate minority leader and gubernatorial candidate, will also address general sessions. The three day event begins Sunday, Sept. 26, and will be presided over by Mayor Roger Willianis, Russell, president of the league. Speakers from federal and state governmental agents, and city officials from throughout the state will contribute to the program. In addition to the general sessions, there will be meetings of professional organizations involved with dty government, Hutchinson 's voting delegates at the convention will be commissioners Ken Keast and Jim Martinez, with City Manager George Pyle and Mayor David Mackey to serve as alternates. The city also will be well-represented at the organizational level. Hutchinson is the only city that has the presidents of three of the municipal-oriented organizations. City Engineer Herman Bunte serves as president of the Kansas Association of Municipal Engineers, Police Chief Bob Adams is president of the Kansas Association of Police Chiefs and Richard Hansen, directwr of planning, is president of tite Kansas Planning Association. They will preside over meetings of their respective groups during split sessions. Southwest Kansas cities will also be well represented. In addition to Williams, Liberal Mayor Merle W. Staats will preside over one general session and Lamed City Attorney Vincent G. Fleming will lead a discussion of legal problems at the Municipal Legal Meeting. Joseph A. Levin, Lindsborg, president of the Traffic and Municipal Judge's Association, will preside at that gi-oup's session and Mayor Robert Parrish, Gre4 Bend, will address a general session on the tax lid. And, as Williams noted in his official invitation to the convention. Dole is also from Russell. Little Champ for The Second Year SACRAMENTO, Calif.
