By RICHARD BURTON SENTINEL CORRESPONDENT EUSTIS The Eustis girls basketball team had way too much in store for Crescent City Thursday night in a non-district girls basketball game. The Panthers (6-4) allowed just two field goals and totally dominated the Raiders, 64-4.

'They were just undersized and out-manned," Eustis coach Jack Cole said. "Our girls came out and played very hard." The Raiders (0-8) missed their first 12 shots and were 2-of-36 for the game and didn't score a point for the first 10 minutes and 14 seconds. Crescent City then went the next 1 7:02 before finally scoring again. Eustis held the Raiders without a field goal in two quarters of the game, which was cut to six minute quarters in the second half. High School Boys Basketball Leesburg cruises to win, Eustis A 71-60 loss to Starkville, eliminates Eustis from the Great Florida Shootout in Kissimmee. By L.C.JOHNSON SENTINEL STAFF WRITER KISSIMMEE If the thought of facing Starkville, Miss. center.Travis Outlaw one of the top high school basketball products in the country wasn't enough to motivate Eustis center Wesley Green to play better, then surely a benching by his coach would do the trick. At least that's what Panthers Coach Pat Todd was counting on Thursday when he sat Green out for the first three and a half minutes of the Florida Shootout at the Kissimmee Civic Center.

Green got the message and scored a game-high 23 points off the bench, but it still wasn't enough to prevent Eustis from being knocked out of the double-elimination tournament with a 71-60 loss to the state of Mississippi's top-ranked team. "I feel a lot better about our per and 7 blocked shots. "Sometimes coaches have to try different tactics to try to motivate players," Green said. "I know didn't play well the last game. I need to be one of the leaders on this team and for some reason, I didn't always have my head in the game.

I didn't lead us. "But I'm a very competitive person, and I wanted to go out today show people that I can compete against any player in the country. I know he Outlaw was ranked as one of the top players, but I wanted to prove that I deserved my ranking as the best player in Florida." Getting Green on track was one thing, but the rest of the Panthers struggled. Guard Jimmy Hudson finished with 11 points, but was held scoreless in the second half and shot only five-of-14 from the field, including one-of-7 3-pointers. His Starkville counterpart B.J.

Spencer added 19 points. "I thought Jimmy played well, he just didn't shoot the ball well," Todd said. Apparently still riding high from their win over Starkville, Leesburg blew a nine-point halftime lead by allowing Selma to close to within a VASHA HUNTFOR THE ORLANDO SENTINEL Before surgery. A former Major League player, Chet Lemon now coaches at Eustis High School. Lemon has spleen removed ASSOCIATED PRESS Eustis baseball Coach Chet Lemon is recovering after surgery at a Jacksonville hospital to remove his spleen, which had enlarged to many times its normal size and weighed seven pounds.

The 46-year-old former major-leaguer was in stable condition at St. Luke's Hospital of the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. The operation was Monday and recovery typically requires five to 12 days. "When he came out of surgery, I had tears in my eyes because I was so happy to see him," said Lemon's wife, Gigi. "His first words to me were, 'I made it.

I'm Lemon's surgery was more perilous because he had to stop taking blood thinners, which he needs because of a rare disease called polycythemia vera. People with the disease produce too many red blood cells, causing their spleen to grow. Lemon is in his second year as Eustis' baseball coach. He played 15 full major league seasons, six with the Chicago White Sox before joining the Detroit Tigers from 1982 to 1990. In the spring of 1990, a physical revealed Lemon's polycythemia vera.

The next year, his first out of baseball, he had to be hospitalized with a life-threatening blood clot in his abdomen. ship, hunter, jumper and dressage. And I thought Wesley really answered the challenge. I thought on Tuesday there were times when he didn't play as well as he should have, so I decided to reward some other players who played hard."
