Sports briefs St. Joe gridders meet Monday Junior golf deadline here All varsity football players and persons interested in playing the sport this year at St. Joseph High School are requested by new head coach Raymond Faulkner to meet in the school's gym Monday at 7:30 p.m. Faulkner said the entire coaching staff will be present at the meeting. Macks today LELAND--The Leland Bakers and the Jackson Macks will square off here today for the third time this weekend at Baker Field beginning at 2 p.m. The Bakers and Macks met in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. No information on the outcome of either game was available at press time late Saturday afternoon. Leland entered the series Saturday with a 7-5 mark, while the Macks were undefeated at 14-0. Krueger to play out option SAN FRANCISCO (UPD- Free agent Rolf Krueger, a defensive end and tackle who played out his option with the St.

Louis Cardinals last year, has signed with the San Francisco 49ers it was announced Friday. Krueger, the brother of the 49ers' defensive tackle, Charlie Krueger, is a three-year pro football veteran. As compensation, a 49er spokesman said, the San Francisco team has agreed to give the Cardinals two future high draft choices. Mobile area waters opened MONTGOMERY, Ala. (UPD Waters in the Mobile area that had been closed to commercial fishermen for more than two years were reopened Friday by the State Conservation Department.

The department took the action after Ira Myers, state health officer, said tests had shown that with the exception of bass the fish taken from the Tombigbee, Tensaw and Mobile River system were safe for human consumption. The waters had been closed to commercial fishing and the public had been warned about eating the fish July 1,1970, after the fish were found to contain a high level of mercury. Today is the deadline for entering the third annual Ralph Schoonover Junior Invitational Golf tournament which kicks off Monday at 10 a.m. Play will also begin Tuesday morning at 10. The tournament is open to boys under the age of 18.

The field will be restricted to the first 96 entries, according to tourney director, Ralph Schoonover. Late entries, may register at the Greenville Municipal pro shop by 6 p.m. Each player will be charged a $5 entry fee. Apply for hunt permits Aug. 1 ROLLING FORK-District Ranger Bill Henley announced here Saturday applications will be accepted for temporary hunt camps permits on the Delta National Forest beginning Aug.

1. Henley said a permit is necessary only if a person plans to camp overnight in the Forest while hunting. A regular state hunting license with appropreate tags is required for hunting. The permits are necessary due to the large number of people camping and hunting in the 59,000 acre Delta Forest. U.S. chess sources said Fischer, the 29- year-old American challenger, is "at peak form and raring to go" into the first game Tuesday against the world champion, Russia's Spassky.

But the sources said there might have to be another postponement--until Thursday-- since chief arbiter Lothar Schmid will not be back in town until then. Schmid, a West German grandmaster and the owner of a book publishing firm in Bamberg, flew home Saturday morning and said he would return Thursday. He said he was leaving because one of his had been injured in a traffic accident. Schmid's assistant arbiter, Gudmundur Arnlaugsson of Iceland, will be in charge Of final preparations, which include the' touchy job of picking the chess sets and board to be used.
