Miss Zuleraals a miss of but 13 summers, and may be pronounced almost a musical prodigy, for her Instrumentation, expression, acouracy and grace of execution upon the pluno, of delicate and difllcult pieces Is quite remarkable, and her command of and accomplishment upon the violin, after only one month's practice, Is phenomenal. vocalization- la nearly perfect, and only volume and practice are necessary to place Mis Garcia upon the highest plane of musical accomplishment, THE HIGH SCHOOL.

SECOND DAY'S SESSION OF THE STATE TEACHERS' ASSOCIATION. Nature of Dullness Done-Reading of Essays and Discussion- Uoculloniry Curette by Mill Hetty Jiblell, of Austin. The second day's session of the Texas State Tenihers' association was held this mernlng at the High school. The day's proceedings were opened by prayer by the Iter. Thrall, after which Frofessor Halbert played a selection on the organ In a masterly style.

Dr. Collier, tho Frcsldent then called the meeting to order. It was decided that the reading of tho minutes of the last meeting was dispensed with temporarily, and an opportunity was then offered lo those members who were not present at last meeting lo enroll themselves. The I'rcsldent again announced that It was necessary for those who deslretl to become members to pay an annual subscription of $1, Frofessor Hole moved that tho membership be made continuous, but that a member might be excluded for the nonpayment of dues. There was no notion taken on this motion, hut It produced some diverse, discussion.

Dr.lls.Mwln proposed that the organization be made more permanent until It embraced all the great body of teachers In the Slate. In ruling on the clause in tho constitution the Fresldent decided Hint teaching was a continuous profession. Frofessor Smith Iiagsdale moved to take up the question regarding the State Superintendent of Education, which was placed on the table yesterday. A division was taken upon the question and the motion lost by a majority of two, there being 22 ayes and 24 nays. General Moore asked the question whether the teachers were expected to pay for their own bosrd.

lfthis were the case, hp for one could not do It. Frof. ltote said lu reply that the teachers were not required to pay for their board and lodging; the Committee on Reception bad located nil such as had reported tn them. Hut as some of the teachers hail seen lit to go to the Menger and the Maverick they could not expect tbo Executive to pay $2 to $3 a day. He further stated that If any had not been assigned to lodgings the committee would at once do so, and Frof.

Hole asked them to report Immediately. The Fresldent then called upon Frofessor J. II. Hanson to read a paper on grammar In Its formnl application to education. This was listened to with an attentive appreciation by the audience.

At the conclusion of the essay the Fresldent called upon Frofessor J. II. Hand to open the discussion. Frofessor Hand excused himself on the ground that the subject was of a nature too abstruse for him to discuss before so cultured and critical an audience without having properly matured his thoughts. John L.

ltlchardson, of Lecsburg, a candidate for Superintendent of State Instruction, stated It was one thing to possess the sclentlllc knowledge, but another to have the skill, Mr. ltlchardson cited an amusing anecdote in support of his assertion. A motion was here made to suspend the live minutes rules for discussion, In order that the meeting might hear the theses of l'rofessor route, of Houston. The theses presented some novel and original ideas concerning the use of grammars In schools, he alleging that there did not exist a grammar of the English tongue, all the present text books being imitations of tbe Latin and Greek grammars. Frofessor lllcknell said he thought Frofessor Fonte's dissertation made third horn to tbe dilemma already existing, A recess of 10 minutes was then called by the Fresldent.

On reassembling the Fresldent stated that the ladles had complained to him of tbe gentlemen walking about during the discussion and Dr. Collier Impressed on the audience the necessity of having quietude on the floor. Tbe discussion of the position of forranl grammar In education was then resumed. Frofessor O.M.ltobertsthcn addressed the meeting, showing the fallacy of teaching children the numerous forms of conventional language, and giving instances oi me quicKness oi inteiieot possessed by tbe Cherokee Indians. Dr.

J. II. Lowther said he had studied the science of grammar for half a century and still considered himself a student. He had listened to the discussion with Interest, but deprecated the Idea of l'rofessor Foute. lie considered no man lit to teach until he could forego the use of a grammar altogether, he ought to be able to teach without any grammar.

An elocutionary exercise by Miss Ilettr Sablett. of Austin, was admlrablr given, tbe recitation being Joaquin SI lller's Sioux Chlers daughter. The meeting then adjourned. It being decided to reassemble at 3 o'clock, and in tne evening it Is the Intention or the teachers to visit the Alamo, and from thence go to Travis park to enjoy the music. PERSONAL.
