Powell, Retired Railway President Dies Dunellen Thomas Carr Powell! retired president of the Chicago and Eastern Railway who was educated In ptihlie schools here, died yesterday (Feb. 9, 1945) In New Orleans. He was 79.

Mr. Powell was born In Cincin nati and began his railroad career with the Queen and Crescent Route, now a part of the Southern Rail way, as acsistant general freight agent in 1895. At the beginning of the last war, Mr. Powell had become vicepresi- dent in charge of all operations of the Southern Railway. He was called to Washington as manager of inland traffic of the War Indus tries Board and special representative with the board of the United States Railrond Administration.

In 1919 he was appointed director of capital expenditures of the Railroad Administration and a member of the industrial board. In 1920, Mr. Powell was elected vicepresldent of the Erie Railroad in charge of traffic and development, a pots he held until 1925, when he became president of the Chicago Eastern Illinois. He was named chairman or the board in 1931 and retired soon afterward. During his career In Chicago he also served as president of the Chicago Western Indiana Railway, the Belt Railway of Chicago, Terminal Railway Association of St Louis and the Railway Express.

Agency. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. H. Fisk Tarbox; two grandsons. Thomas Rupsell and David Leigh Tarbox, and a sister, Mrs.

J. Edward Lytle. His wife, Mrs. Leigh Whittemore Powell, died in 1930. Summit Marine Dies In Action on Carrier Summit Pfc.

Donald Campbell White, U. S. Marine Corps, was killed In action Jan. 21 while serv ing as an anti-aircraft gunner on a carrier of the Third Fleet during an attack on Formosa, the War De partment has advised his parents. Mr.

and Mrs. Ralph P. White or 65 Oakridge Ave. Private White enlisted in the Ma rine Corps while a student in the Taft School, where he was a member of the varsity baseball, hockey and tennis teams. His father is a trustee of Rutgers University, New Brunswick.

Plan Memorial Service For Sgt. F. B. Hulsizer Clinton A memorial service for Sgt. Frank B.

Hulsizer who was killed Jan. 17 in France, will be held in the Clinton Presbyterian Church at 10.30 a. m. tomorrow. Herbert Cawley Post, American Le gion, High Bridge, and the local Boy Scout Troop 121 will attend.

The Rev. Theodore A. Rath, pastor, will preach on the sermon theme requested by the congregation, What Proof Is There for immor tality." Michael Zomhorka, 69 Scotch Plaint Michael Zomborka, 69, of 1634 E. Front died yea terday (Feb. 9, 1945) In Muhlen berg Hospital, Plainfield.

Born in Hungary. Mr. Zomborka -had re sided here since 1923, and was em ployed as a cabinet-maker with the Dri-Wood North Plainfield He was a communicant of St. Ber nard's Church, a member of the Carpenters' Brotherhood of Plain- field and of the Hakoczi Association of Bridgeport, Conn. He us survived by his widow, Mrs Teresa Buzatan Zomborka, at home; and his mother, brother and two sisters, all of Hungary; also 25 nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 am. Tuesday from the Hig s-ins "Home for Funerals." Plain field. A Requiem High Mass will follow at 10 a.m. In St, Bernard's Church. Interment will be In the family plot.

George Scheurman Funeral services for George Scheurman of 116 Church were held yesterday from his late resi dence. The Rev. Frederick L. Van Steen. pastor of the Messiah Lutheran Church, officiated.

Pallbearers were Herman Peinhardt, Mill- ington; William Arflmon, Green Brook Township; Louis Bresky, Elizabeth; Clifford Mundy. North Plainfield; Pvt. Gerald McDon ough and James M. Senna, Plain field. Interment was tn Hillside Cemetery.

Mr. Scheurman died Tuesday in the hotme-of a brother, William Scheurman of Mountain Green Brook Township. Mrs. E. T.

Frederick J. Dennis Greenwich, Conn. yP) Frederick J. Dennw, 56, a writer and native of Newark, N. died here Thursday of a heart attack.

He was a free lance magazine feature writer and an authority on 16th Century England. He had served at times as contributing edl tor of the Los Angeles Times and as editor of a magazine in Cali fornia. He leaves his widow and son and daughter. John T. Calvl, son of Mr. and Mrs. Salva-tore Calvl of 35 Grove was killed In action Oct. 24 while serving with the infantry In Norther-Italy, the War Department an nounced today.

Private Calvi had been overseas a year and six months. In the Army since May 5, 1943, the young infantryman was wound ed in May a year later, but returned to the front several weeks after. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge and the Purple Heart. Private Calvl survived by his parents; four brothers, Nicholas. seaman third class; Daniel, a pri vate first class in the South Pacific; Rocco and George Calvl, both at home; and a sister, Mrs.

Stanley Phillips, also of the Grove St. ad dress. Mrs. W. C.

Parker Rites Tomorrow Klrmington Funeral service for Mrs. Willard C. Parker, 83 years old, of 142 Main who died un expectedly Wednesday at Miami. will be held at the Holcomb Funeral Home tomorrow at 2:30 p. m.

The Rev. Marshall Harrington, D. pastor of the Flemington Presbyterian Church, will officiate and interment will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Flemington. Mrs. Parker was born in Fleming- ton Feb.

17, 1861, daughter of th late Joseph H. and Margaret Bellis Hlggins, and was a lifelong resident nere. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and of the Flemington Women's Club. She leaves two sons. George R.

Parker and Russell Parker of Flem ington; three grandsons, all set-virgin the armed forces, Willard Parker, in the PhilUppines; Tech. Sgt. George Parker, at Fort Benting, Georgia; and Corp. Abram Parker, in Tampa, one greatgrandchild, one sister. Mrs.

Ella Klase of Bloomfield; and one brother. Charles Higgina of Cleveland, Ohio. Friends may call today from 7 to 9 p.m. at tha funeral home here. Mrs.

The Bears achieved a 10-polnt edge In the Initial period by outscoring the homesters. 16-6.

JCC rallied in the next two quarters to draw within four points of the Bears at the con elusion of the third quarter. However, the Bears, aided by manager Clem Kantvs fine strategy. clicked smoothly as a unit In the last quarter. The Bears consistently ripped JCC's -one defense to shreds and broke through for numerous close shots to outscore the home sters. 17-4.
