Housing Short After A Flood GRANADA, Spain (AP) - The government has seized all of Granada's garages to give temporary housing to more than 1,500 persons made homeless by heavy weekend rains. Victims have received 11 tons of powdered milk, 300 .blankets and 300 mattresses from the United States. Looks Like Bigger Wheat Acreage This Year WASHINGTON (AP)-Growcrs of winter wheat have signed agreements to take about half as much land out of production in 1963 as they idled in 1962. ' Agriculture Department reports showed today that 5,219,140 acres of land alloted under a control program for winter wheat for 1963 harvest had been or will be retired. This compared with 11,153,822 acres of winter wheat land diverted under a 1962 program. Last year, farmers were required to retire at least 10 per cent of their allotment. In return, they got government price sup- ports and payments on the idled land. Under the 1963 program, retirement of wheat land was voluntary. Those who do idle at least 10 per cent of the 1962 allotments will be eligible for price supports at $1.82 a bushel, a payment of 18 cents a bushel on the normal production of the land kept in wheat and a payment on the idled acres. The reduction in idled land is reflected in a government forecast that the 1963 wheat crop will be considerably larger than the 1962 harvest. The output may add to a surplus which was reduced last year. The departmnt said farmers retiring land this year will be eligible for payments of about $125 million on the idled land. No estimate was made on the amount of the payment on the normal production of the land kept in use. Kansas, the chief wheat state, led in retirement for 1963 with 1,021,626 acres. Oklahoma was next with 717,903, followed by Texas with 076,393, Colorado with' 510,307, Nebraska with 394,503 and Missouri with 307,876.
