Michele Stewart Congratulations are in order to Tucson's community-oriented KWBA-TV. The Tucson affiliate of the WB network has tied for first place with Austin, Texas, in nonmetered markets after the February Nielsen sweeps. The award was given in the 12-34 age group, which is the target of KWB Channel 58. "It blew my mind to be honored like this so early," said general manager Ron Bergamo, adding that the station started here in January 1999. Bergamo explained that "nonmetered" refers to the way Nielsen keeps track of viewer-ship and is done four times per year, compared with "metered," which is done daily.

"It's a very unscientific technique in a high-tech world. We're hoping to be metered in 2002." channels A The latest edition of The Complete K-12 Report has earned channels an A with educators. Topping the list ahead of such esteemed organizations as Scholastic and National Geographic, channels were voted the most popular providers of social studies educational support materials. Respondents were asked whose supplementary materials they used the most. Some 55.5 percent of teachers said they used materials the most in the classroom.

National Geographic came in second, at 52.5 percent; and PBS was third, at 46 percent. The survey was not limited to television networks and included traditional providers such as Rand McNally, World Book, Scholastic and Microsoft. channels also tied for second with National Geographic and The Library of Congress as favorite Web sites.
