The Dow Jones average of 30 Industrials was off I.6I points to 909.39. This brought the total decline over the past three sessions to nearly 12 points. Analysts pointed out that the market also was being hit by some mild profit taking on gains that followed President Nixon's economic announce-1 ment in mid-August. There was nothing in the news background to stimulate either buying or selling interest, and most traders remained unenthusiastic, analysts said. Volume on the New York Stock Exchange totaled 10.01 1"™ LOW million shares, down from 11.39' million shares Friday. The Big Board index of some 1,300 common stocks slipped 0.18 to 55.38. Of the 1.698 stockst raded on the New York Stock Exchange, 543 advanced, and 811 declined. There were 36 new'highs and 23 new lows for the year. The Associated press 60-stock average fell 1.0 to 332.5, with industrials down 1.0, rails off 1.0; aiid utilities doen 0.3. Standanl & Poor's 500-stock index closed at 100.07, off .35. Airlines, oils, chemicals, steeisi motors, electronics, and aurdraftg were lower. Rubber issues were up, maU order-retail were unchanged, and utilities,' rails and metals were mi5c6d. Wheat prices declined 21 /2 cents and com around 2 cents, but there was some recovery before the close. Oats decline(l ai-ound Vz cents. Nearby wheat otpions staged a recovery before midsession but the new selling near the close sent prices down again. Com futures were under heaviest selling on the opening, and for a time buyer interest was scarce. Oats trade was very slow and prices held to a range of less than 1 cent. At the close, soybeans were down 7% cents a bushel, September 3.10; wheat was 2 cents 'J-^^ 'lower, September 1.45%; com s!82 4^29 was down nearly 2 cents, Sep- M^omac" ^47^jtember 1.16%; and oats lost around V2 cent, September 65 cents.
