BRADLEY TO ENTER NBA DRAFT — Villanova center Michael Bradley announced Friday that he is forgoing his senior season to enter the NBA draft. "1 just feel it's the appropriate time for me right now in my career," said Bradley "I feel like I've developed a lot in the last four years at Kentucky and Villanova and I feel it's just time for me to move on." Bradley a second-team AU- American, averaged 21.4 points and 10.1 rebounds in his only season with Villanova. He played two seasons at Kentucky and sat out a transfer season. A 6-foot-lO, 245-pound center, Bradley projects as a power forward in the NBA and could be a lottery pick. WATERS NAMED RUTGERS HEAD COACH — Gary Waters took the job of rebuilding Rutgers' basketball program on Friday, promising that his teams will play hard and have fun in trying to get the Scarlet Knights to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 1991. Waters, who led Kent State to two NCAA tournament appearances in the past three years, signed a seven-year contract Friday that wDl pay him $450,000 annually "If you have ever seen our team at Kent play in the past, you probably would have seen a group of young men who were confident in what they did, with the reason being they believed in themselves," Waters said. BRYANT COLLEGE HIRES FORMER UNLV COACH MAX GOOD — Max Good, the former interim basketball coach at Nevada-Las Vegas, has been hired as the head coach at Division II Bryant CoUege. Good, 59, took over the UNLV program after head coach BUly Bayno was fired in December In less than a full season under Good, the Runnin' Rebels posted a 13-9 record, but were ineligible for any postseason tournaments because of recruiting violations. "It's a pretty big name for us," Bryant spokesman Chuck Sullivan said. "He was a late entry into our search. WILKINS DECLARES FOR NBA DRAFT — Sophomore forward Damien WUkins of North Carolina State wDl test his draft value, but might return to school if he's not considered first-round material. Wilkins, the son of former NBA player Gerald Wilkins and nephew of Dominique Wilkins, declared himself eligible Friday for NBA draft on June 27. Wilkins averaged 11.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists for the WoUpack, 13-16 last season. He shot 40 percent from the field and 26 percent from 3-point range. CHARGERSTAKE A CLOSE LOOK AT VICK— The San Diego Chargers are making it pretty clear that Michael Vick is their man. This guy is for real," Chargers coach Mike Riley said after nearly a week in Blacksburg with the Virginia Tech quarterback, who is leaving school after just two seasons. "1 don't have any more questions. I'd love to have the opportunity to coach him." Since the Chargers have the No. 1 pick in the AprU 21 NFL draft, Riley can get his wish although the final decision lies with general manager John Butler Butler is being more coy than his coach, but he also indicated during NFL meetings last week in California that Vick seems a no- brainer Vick isn't so sure. At 61, Vick is slightly shorter than the optimum height pro scouts look for in a quarterback. But his quickness and agUity have made him one of the most exciting players in college football the past two seasons.
