Rev. Gevan Spinney. Pastor of First Baptist Church of Haughton, will be officiating the service. Sarah Purcell went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 25, 2008 after a lengthy illness. She was a wonderful mother who was loved by-many.

She will be missed by all who knew her and heaven is now blessed to have her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert (Bob) Purcell of 3S years, her parents, Roy and Rosit Hamil, two sisters, Mozeile Barber and Dorothy Hamil and three brothers, Guy, Bryant and Billy Hamil. He will be deeply missed! He was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie and Lavada Fletcher; his brothers, Robert and Steve Fletcher; and his baby granddaughter, Breanna Taylor Fletcher. Newell 82, was born on on June 3, 1926 in Honduras and died on December 26, 2008, in Shreveport, LA. Paul and Rose became residents of Haynesville, LA in 1956. Paul served his country during the Korean Conflict, began his law practice in Haynesville, and later served the public as an assistant district attorney and thereafter as district judge. Throughout his life he espoused causes that deeply defined his character and his beliefs, whether they were political, religious, or otherwise. He was a long-time member of the Republican Party and an even longer-term member of the Body of Christ. He was always willing to share his faith with people, as evidenced by his 25 years teaching Sunday school (succeeding his wife) and the 48 plus years he was active in the First Presbyterian Church of Haynesville, LA.

He was a long-time member of the Haynesville Lion's Club and played an integral part in the founding of Claiborne Academy, which has touched so many young people. Spending time in the outdoors at the "Blackwell Place" with his children and grandchildren was among his favorite hobbies. He was preceded in death by his father, Andrew Avent Newell, and his mother, Melba "Cita" Rozelle Woodville Newell. Survivors are his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Rose, three children: Rebecca and husband, Rick; David and wife, Kelly; Danny and wife, Suzanne, twelve grandchildren: Matt Wilbanks and wife, Erin; Jennifer and Nicolas McMinn; Lauren, Jordan, Chelsa, Samantha, and Malea Newell; Brittany Robinett; Trent and Carli Newell. Buddy was a avid fishermen that loved to go camping. He loved to gather with his family and friends.

He enjoyed listening to his family and friends play music. He was a outgoing man that loved many and was loved by many. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Maude Carter, and two sisters, Cloteal Robinson and Elvie Robinson. Alexander officiating. Lin was born at the family home in Taylortown in Bossier Parish Louisiana on August 27.

1910; the second child of Luella Virginia Hodges and James Henry Mercer. She was predeceased by her sister Lucy Mercer Argo and brother William H. "Son" Mercer. She attended schools at Taylortown and Elm Grove, graduating from high school as the valedictorian at Baylor Academy in Waco, Texas. She went to LSU in Baton Rouge where she was voted the most popular coed and lived at the old Pentagon Barracks downtown where she was a member of the "fencing team" that avoided evening curfew by climbing over the fence.

After graduation in 1930 she taught English at Plain Dealing High School. In 1 934 she married Raymond Davis Millener, whom she had met when he was a cadet at West Point. As an Army wife she accompanied her husband on assignments in Panama, Texas, France, West Point, Colorado, and North Carolina. Following her husband's death in WWII she married James Graceton Floyd in 1947 and supported him as an independent oil equipment entrepreneur until his death in 1992. She was a member of the Shreveport Chapter of the National Society of Colonial Dames of America in the state of Louisiana and served a term as president.

She was a long time member of St. Mark's Cathedral. She was a member of a Bible study group that met weekly for over fifty years. She finally stopped smoking in her 80's but on her 90th birthday bummed a cigarette at the Taylortown Store where scores of friends and family congregated to celebrate with her. She possessed a wonderful wit and sense of humor and was a beloved mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend to people of all ages.

She died at the home she loved on Elmwood Street in Shreveport on December 4, 2008 at 98 years of age. She is survived by her children, Virginia Millener Paul and husband the Rev. Kenneth Wayne Paul of Shreveport and Drs. James G. Floyd, Jr.

and wife Twila Floyd of Pirtsboro, North Carolina, grandsons William S. Paul and wife Kathleen of Houston and Raymond M. Paul of Washington, DC, and great granddaughter Caroline Paul of Houston. The family wishes to thank the visiting guild and clergy of St. Mark's Cathedral, Dr.

Sanford HAUGHTON, LA A graveside service was held for Mr. Malcolm Sanford on Friday, December 26, 2008 at 1 1 :00 AM at Hill Crest Memorial Park. Mr. Sanford passed away on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at Willis Knighton-Greenwood, Shreveport, LA. Mr.

Sanford retired as an Assistant Chief from the Bossier City Fire Department after 25 years of service. He had been a resident of Bossier City since 1950. Mr. Sanford was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brady Sanford and Alma Tims, brother, Dalton Sanford and sister, Mary Helen Andrews.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy Sanford and his children; Michael and Danny Sanford and Becky Sanford Guillot and husband, Jerry. He is also survived by his brother, Loyd Sanford and wife Gilda, two grandchildren, John and Jesse Sanford and numerous nieces nephews and friends. He met his love, Virginia Rose (Ginger) Seaton at Byrd High in 1933. They married in 1940 after Jimmy received his BS in Mechanical Engineering from LSU. He began working as a machine tool salesman for Harris Frederic in 1939, went on to own the company and worked until his retirement in 1996 at the age of 79. Ginger died in 2004, and Jimmy's life has been incomplete without her. Friends will remember Jimmy's total integrity, his ability to fix or duplicate anything mechanical, his generosity to worthy causes, his willingness to help anyone, his love for early Dodge Brothers motorcars, and his dedication to family and church.

Jimmy is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Goree (Bill) of Nashville, TN; son, Stephen Sandifer (Jo), of Houston, TX; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Officiating will be Rev. Bill Crider. Family will receive friends from 4-8 pm Sunday December 28, 2008 at Rose-Neath Funeral Home in Minden. Henry was born January 22, 1917 in Saline to C. Dallas Watts and Eugenia Moncrief Watts.

He died December 25, 2008 in Minden. He lived in Arcadia in the late 30's working for- the Civilian Conservation Corp. Camp 4412. In 1945 he moved to Minden, to work at the Ordinance Plant, and worked there until 1 947, at that time he bought a truck and worked for Braswell Sand and Gravel until they closed. He continued to haul gravel and dirt in the area working for local construction companies and individuals until he had driven one million miles without an accident.

He retired and devoted his time to his favorite pastimes, fishing and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, Elizabeth Traylor Watts and Maxine Collins Watts, brothers Howard and CD. Watts, sisters Gertrude and Ola Dee Watts. He is survived by brother Leonard Watts of Shreveport, sister-in-law Chariene Watts of Saline, son Jim and wife Adela of California, daughters Nona Sale of Minden, and Judy Rider and husband Tom of North Carolina, grandson Ronnie Sale of Minden, granddaughters JaNiece Neito of California, Kathy Kirk and husband Gregg of Oklahoma, Allison, Amy, and Abby Rider of North Carolina, great grandson A.J. Neito of California and a large number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be nephews. In lieu of flowers, family suggest memorials be made to homebound ministry of First Baptist Church, St. Jude's or giver's choice of charity. The family would like to thank a few of the people that helped make the last few years easier for our Dad, the staff at the Arbor of Minden, the super special staff and nurses at The Willow Ridge of Arcadia, Drs. Chanler and Earnhardt and Tracy of Minden Family Medicine along with the wonderful medical staff of Minden Medical Center.
