FOR BEST RESULTS TRY CLASSIFIED ADS BRIGHT IDEA Aids Victims Of Uninsured Drivers LANSING (AP) -In its first two months of operation, Michigan's new Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund "is working much better than we expected," says Secretary of State James Hare. "If license plate sales only worked as Hare observed on this jammed final day to buy 1966 plates. More than 300 claims have been filed by Michigan residents who seek reimbursement from the fund for property damage, injury or death costs caused by uninsured motorists.

One of the claims was paid only 33 days after the accident and half a dozen others are ready to be paid, Hare said. He said processing thus far has gone smoothly and there have been few complaints from uninsured motorists about having to pay $35 into the fund. Initiating a claim against the fund requires only sending a letter to the Motor Vehicle Accident Claims Fund, Michigan Department of State, Lansing, Michigan, 48918. The letter should include: Your nameflSdress, license plate number and vehicle serial number. Date, time and place of accident Name of police department to which the accident was reported.

Name, address and license plate number of owner and driver of the other vehicle, or any information known in the case of a hit-run accident. Name of your insurance company, policy number, name and address of agent and whether or not you carry uninsured motorist coverage. The fund office will send you an application for payment from the fund. This requires a diagram of the accident and other pertinent information. A claims adjuster will visit you, investigate the claim, talk with the uninsured party and attempt to negotiate an agreement on blame and amount of damages between the concerned parties.

Martin Buth, R-Comstock Park. Buth said the proposed increase would bring total state spending for local schools to more than $570 million. The bulk of the comes from earmarked sales tax revenues. The measure follows recommendations of Gov. George Romney and the State Education Department.

It provides a $7.9 million enrichment of the per pupil allotment. If the measure passes, local school districts would receive $260 per pupil plus a 4.675 de-ductable millage factor for the fiscal year 1966-67, compared with $255 per pupil with a 4.6 deductable millage factor for fiscal 1965-66. Age has one advantage: The medicine you have to take for what ails you doesn't taste as twm, -ill others, court action will be necessary to determine amount of the claim. Whether the amount is determined by negotiation or court action, the sum then is paid from the fund to the victim. The uninsured motorist must then begin to repay the fund. The fund pays up to $10,000 for injuries or death of one person, $20,000 for all injuries and deaths in a single accident and up to $5,000 for property damage.

Minimum property damage claim permitted is $200, and no property damage is paid in hit-run cases. Oft- Poorer school districts levying 14.5 mills for operating purposes would be eligible for $380 per pupil from combined local and state sources under the bill. This provision for the low valuation districts was limited last year to a total of $23.25 The new bill would eliminate that ceiling and increase the cost to the state by $11.8 million. Total cost of these two school aid improvements is $19.7 million. In addition, Buth said, another $7 million is needed to pay for the added 45,000 pupils expected to enroll in the public schools this fall.
