She just doesn't want to have to look at him. President Clinton's former press secretary refused to negotiate a contract with the CNBC president, a one-time media adviser to presidents Reagan and Bush. "I wouldn't sit down across the table from Roger," said Myers, who left the negotiations to lawyers. "He's cleaned enough of my colleagues' clocks." Myers is taking over as co-host of "Equal Time" with Mary Matalin, who worked on Bush's 1992 re-election campaign. Ailes got interested in Myers after hearing her bash him at a White House news conference, according to Saturday's TV Guide. "She's really good," Ailes thought to himself. Then he called her at the White House. "Of course, they never trusted her again," he said. Actors discuss thirtysomething' RADNOR, Pa. — OK, OK. Michael Steadman WAS a fine whiner. "Sometimes I just wanted to shout at him, 'Shut up! Get on with it! There are more important matters in the world than the way you feel!" said Ken Olin, who played the sometimes navel-gazer on "thir- tysomething. " i But Olin said he got tired of people identifying him with his character. His wife and co-star Patricia Wettig, whose character Nancy Weston battled ovarian cancer on the show, had the same problem. "There were people who would simply not believe that I was OK," she said in Saturday's TV Guide. The couple, who both just turned fortysomething, return to television this month in the CBS movie "Nothing But The Truth." New Jackson 5 releases planned NEW YORK — Before Motown there was Steel; town for the Jackson 5. A 1967 recording made by the singing brothers in their hometown of Gary, Ind., for Steeltown Records will be released this summer. The original was released only regionally, with an 8-year-old Michael Jackson singing lead vocals. Steel- town President Ben Brown found the master tapes in his house last year. Inverted Records of New York acquired the tapes and remastered them digitally. The first single, "Big Boy," will be released June 1, along with a music video. Inverted plans to release "The Steeltown Collection" later this year. Letterman fans don't bother Leno INDIANAPOLIS — It can be hard for a Leno in Letterman country. As "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno interviewed drivers along the pits at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, fans chanted loudly: "Dave! Dave! Dave!" "That's OK," Leno said. "People have this attitude that I see in sports and everything, where you're supposed to trash talk the other guy. I don't. I like David and think he's very funny. Hopefully, he thinks the same of me." Comic wants his satire to bite NEW YORK — One thing really gets Harry Shearer down: when his satire doesn't bite. "People have learned this really disgusting habit of trying to be good sports, of getting up afterwards and saying, 'Oh, that was great, will you send me a copy?'" said Shearer, known for "The Simpsons." "It's utterly frustrating, because deep in the heart of a satirist is the insane belief that if you make fun of something for long enough, it will eventually go away," the comic actor says. "And when you get a positive response like that, your heart just sinks." Novelist recalls early days of Willis NEW YORK — The jerk with the harmonica? That was Bruce Willis! Novelist Jonathan Levi remembers the megastar as a struggling actor in New York in the pre-"Moonlighting" television series days. "I was in a band, the Savannah Sheiks. One day the singer called me up and said, 'Remember that funny, kinda jerky guy who used to come to our gigs and pull out his harmonica and play all the wrong notes? Now he's Bruce Willis,"' Levi says. Fame has been a dizzying ride, Willis says in Sunday's New York Times Magazine. Now he's watching Brad Pitt — his co-star in the upcoming film "Twelve Monkeys" — go through it. "Fame will make your head spin," Willis said. "It's an interesting thing to watch what I went through happen to someone else. See him become the thing, become it for a while. I'm very glad it's not me." • From Wire Service Reports Willis v \wl\wl\ Explore the life of 3 woman kept a spinster by her mother so the daughter can cook for her.
