Theater-lovers supported the first season and offered satisfactory support for the second season. This support is, of course, financial, a fact which makes it possible to bring in the plays. Does it satisfy artistically? The quality of the plays is an intangible item because the plays stem for the most part from the season on Broadway. No responsibility can be taken locally for Broadway's preferences as that is beyond our control. It should be noted, however, that the only attractions that tour are those with an established record of finan-.

cial success in New York. This durability is essential to taking the gamble of sending out a company of actors and equipment to troupe the country. It was a leave-your-brains-at-home evening, based upon a comic strip of great popularity. It was the best liked attraction of the season. The fact alone could bring forth some commentary on the state of audience preference and intellectual climate in the theater. Touring professional productions are bridging a spectacular gap and vacumn created by the demise in the decade, 1950-60, of all but two resident play-making groups, the Little Theater, and the Shreveport Summer Theater which, being or becoming a seasonal operation, is out of business nine months of the year. No campus drama at Centenary College, home of the much-admired but little used Majorie Lyons Playhouse, is on the horizon. Shreveport needs the professional companies bringing important drama fare such as "Look Homeward. Angel" and "Dark at the Top of the Stairs," but it also should cry out for more stage activity on the resident amateur level. The 1960s in Shreveport require new torchbearers for the drama.
