SPORTS DIGEST Basketball CHICAGO — Center Robert Parish, who has played more games than any player in NBA history, signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Bulls Wednesday. Parish, 43, will he entering his 21st season, also the most in league history. He had shared the record of 20 with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who retired in 1989. Parish, who has played 1,568 games — eight inore than Abdul-Jabbar — is 13th on the NBA's all-time scoring list with 23,173 points. He comes to the Bulls as a free agent after having played the last two seasons with the Charlotte Hornets. Boxing JAY, Okla. — Heavyweight Tommy Morrison, who last week announced his return to boxing, was scheduled for a hearing Thursday on a misdemeanor charge of transporting a loaded firearm. Jay police said they found a loaded .22-caliber pistol in Morrison's car in July. Authorities had to tow the car after Morrison suffered a medication-triggered seizure while stopped at a traffic light. The fighter and his family were taken to the hospital, leaving the car blocking an intersection. Morrison, who announced in February he had tested HIV positive, said last week lie would fight one last time to raise money for his Knockout AIDS foundation. Cyling ZARAGOZA, Spain — Alex Zulle of Switzerland held his overall lead in the Tour of Spain on Wednesday as Dmitri Konyshev of Russia won the day's stage. The Russian crossed the finish line nearly shoulder to shoulder with Denmark's Bo Hamburger and Gianni Bugno of Italy. Kony- shev took five hours, 41 minutes and 24 seconds to complete the mainly downhill, 135-mile course from Spain's northern mountains to the city of Zaragoza. With just four stages left until Sunday's finish of the 2,447-mile tour, Zulle held to his one- minute, 10-second lead over defending champion and teammate Laurent Jalabert of France. Football NEW YORK — Arizona's LeShon Johnson, who had 214 yards rushing at New Orleans last Sunday, heads the list of NFL players honored on Wednesday, selected as NFC offensive player of the week. The others picked in the various categories were quarterback Stan Humphries of San Diego; safety Manny Martin of Buffalo; kicker Adam Vinatieri of New England; defensive tackle John Randle of Minnesota and kick returner Derrick Witherspoon of Philadelphia. Johnson, who had only 97 yards rushing in two previous seasons, had touchdown runs of 70 and 56 yards among his 21 carries as the Cardinals won for the first time, beating New Orleans 28-14. Randle was the NFC defensive player for two sacks and two forced fumbles in Minnesota's 30-21 victory over Green Bay. Humphries was the AFC offensive player after completing 18 of 25 passes for 226 yards and four touchdowns in San Diego's 40-34 wjn in Oakland. Martin, a defensive back, had two interceptions in Buffalo's 10-7 win over Dallas to earn AFC defensive honors. Witherspoon had a 97- yard return for a touchdown in Philadelphia's 3318 win over Atlanta. Vinatieri had five field goals, including a 40-yarder in overtime to give New England a 28-25 victory over Jacksonville. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — St. Louis Rams running back Lawrence Phillips has settled a lawsuit filed ; against him by a woman he allegedly battered and sexually assaulted last year while both attended the University of Nebraska. The settlement came after a federal judge decided to make the lawsuit a public record. The judge also blasted Nebraska's handling of the episode and said the matter warranted a "substantial investigation." Phillips' actions tarnished the university's image and once again raised questions about universities' treatment of top college athletes who have run-ins with the law. Court records show that the plaintiff, Katherine Ann McEwen of Topeka, spoke for the first time about how the incidents with Phillips have affected her life. Golf A frantic five-week run in which Tiger Woods won the U.S. Amateur, turned pro with golfs richest endorsement deal and played 408 holes at 63-under-par ended Wednesday when he withdrew from the Buick Challenge, citing exhaustion. Woods' third-place finish at the B.C. Open last week gave hima total of $140,194 in earnings and moved him to 128th on the money list, guaranteeing unlimited sponsor exemptions for 1997. It also put Woods within easy striking distance of the top-125 finish needed to earn his full-time PGA Tour card. General SAN DIEGO — A package bomb exploded today in the La Jolla home of a San Diego Chargers team physician, injuring his 14-year-old stepdaughter who had brought it into the house, police said. Police were called to the home of Dr, Gary Losse about 6:40 a.m. (PDT) after the small package exploded in the teen-ager's face, said police spokesman Bill Robinson. The girl, who was burned on her face and hands, was taken to Scripps Hospital in La Jolla. She was listed in fair condition, said hospital spokeswoman Sue Pondrom. Further information about the condition of the girl, whose name has not been released, was not disclosed at the request of the family, Pondrom said. The package was apparently addressed to Losse, one of four team physicians for the Chargers, Robinson said. It was not known why he was a target of the attack.
