The 1952 State Golf tournament will be played at the New Orleans Country club, it was decided at the meeting. Dates for the '52 tourney will be set. at the mid-year meeting in February. McGonagill defeated fellow Shreveporter 'Tommy Morrow, 3 and 2. To gain the finals while Zachariah ousted Jackie Doss of Monroe, 1-up, in a nip-and-tuck semifinal match.

The finals tomorrow will find two former champions battling it out for the 1951 crown. McGonagill has won the last three tournaments and is seeking his fifth state championship while the carefree Zachariah won the state crown in 1946 at the Louisiana State university course in Baton Rouge. McGonagill stroked his way to the semi finals by defeating Bill Furlow of Alexandria, 2 and 1 and Zachariah ousted riark-horse Ted Sliman of New Iberia. 3 and 2. Sliman had scored the tourney's biggest upset in the first round by eliminating 1947 champion Lawrence Larcade of Opelousas, 1-up, he gained the quarter-finals with a 3 and 2 victory over Pat McGonagill, the defending champion's 15-year-old son.

Villeges is the father of Mary Ann Villeges, the teen-ager who won the State Women's Golf Crown at the Shreveport Country club this year. The story was that Al would have given his good" right arm to win the crown so Louisiana could have a father-daughter team holding the state's highest golf honors.

Jimmy and Pat McGonagill could also have provided a story-book finish to the tourney until Pat was eliminated in the second round of play. Pat started at the bottom of the lower bracket and his father as defending champion at the top of the upper bracket.
