Many gets Sweet win By David West Louisiana Sports Bureau MANY Brandon Sweet ran for 250 yards and Adam Founds threw for three touchdowns, but the Many defense was the big story in the Tigers' 34-20 win over eighth-ranked Oakdale on Friday night in a non-district game. Many shut out the Warriors in the second half and held them to 77 yards total offense largely because ihe Tigers also forced four second-half turnovers and six in the game. 'Hie Tigers had four turnovers. "Our defense played tremendous in the second half." said Many coach David Feaster. "They hit us with some of their best stuff in the first half.

We came back in the second half with some intensity. We were smarter because we knew what their best plays were." Many (4-1) scored 27 unanswered Kints after Oakdale took a 20-7 lead. Founds had two touchdown passes to Morris Thomas of 12 vards and 1 yard to tie the game at 20. The Many quarterback has thrown seven touchdown passes in two weeks. Sweet added two scores on a 7-yard run and a 9Vyard run to put the game away late in the third quarter.

The freshman running back has 84(i yards on the ground in half a season. "Adam had tremendous protection tonight," said Feaster. "We know Brandon is not going to get 250 yards every week, so if we are going to make it back to the state quarterfinals, at some point we have to throw the football." lour-play, 52-yard drive. After a North DeSoto (1-4) turnover, Scott had a 32-yard run to set up an 8-yard touchdown run and a LM) Mansfield lead. Scott's touchdown run, coupled with Dale Calhoun's 2-xiint conversion pass to Sky Jones, nave the Wolverines (4-1) a 2(W) lead.

Jermaine Johnson's 8-yard touchdown run gave the Wolverines a L'tW) hallliine lead. 'Hie Griffins did stop one Wolverines drive when Ryan Buford picked off a Calhoun pass in the end zone. Calhoun, though, gained a measure of revenue with a touchdown pass to Michael Jones for a 34-0 Mansfield lead. "It was a big win for us," Calhoun said. "It helps us get motivated for homecoming next week.

We hurt ourselves too much with penalties." Mansfield closed out its scoring after Jeremy Short picked up the football following a bad snap on a punt attempt and ran it into the end zone from the 1-yard line. "Jermaine Christopher hit the punier hen I was trying to recover it." Short said. "I just picked it up and ran it into the end zone." The Wolverines return to action next week against Many. MENARD 10, ST. MARY 7 OT: St.

Mdry (2 3) was stopped on a fourth one play after Menard's Michael Savoy Kicked a 22-yard field goal in overtime. Menaid's Chris Juneau led all rushers with 26 carries for 112 yards, while Guillory topped St.

The limt'S Woodlawn's Steve Richardson (top) hauls down BTW's Kinsmon Lancaster for a sack during the Knights' victory on Friday night. First-half surge helps Woodlawn spoil BTW homecoming behind the line of scrimmage became a live ball picked up by Lions' Roy Washington, setting up first-and-10 on the Knights' 18-yard line. A 40-yard strike from Thomas to wide receiver Morris with 38 seconds left in the first half moved the Knights deep into Lions territory.

Then, as the game clock in the first half expired, Thomas found Dennis Morris for a 10-yard touchdown pass to put the Knights ahead. The subsequent 2-point conversion was by Charles Edwards for the final score of 14-8. Neither team was able to move the ball in the second half as the defenses once again took control. With 2:51 left in the game, BTWs Cory Wilson intercepted a Thomas pass, giving the lions the ball on the Knight 20-yard line. screen pass from Lancaster deep in the pocket to Douglas resulted in a (5-yard loss. Rolling right, I-ancastcr found wide receiver Cornelius Jackson for a (i-yard scoring strike on the very next play, llie 2-point conversion, a pass from Lancaster to wide receiver Tre Veals, gave BTW an 8-6 lead with 1:43 left in the first quarter.

BTW began its second diive on its own 32-yard line. lions running back Douglas, who would run for 97 yards on 1 1 carries, got the offense moving for BTW with consecutive runs of 10 and 9 yards. Driving into Woodlawn territory, lions quarterback I-ancaster threw an interception, giving the Knights the ball on their own 30-yard line. Woodlawn's possession would be short-lived, as Thomas' pass Kdwards blasted 27 yards through the lions' secondary to the 1-yard line. Edwards took the ball in the end zone on a 1-yard run with 8:38 left in the first quarter.

A touchdown that wasn't turned out to be a big play in the second quarter. After a Kinsmon Lancaster scramble for 15 yards and a 15-yard late hit penalty put the Lions deep in Knights territory, an 8-yard Quinton Douglas touchdown was called back on a holding ixnalty. The call stood despite pleas by coach Corey Parham, and the Lions who would have taken the lead never scored again. Earlier in the half. BTW's Douglas brought the ball inside the 1 on a 17-yard romp up the middle.

On the following play, a By Gary Delaney Special to The Times A 10-yard touchdown pass from Quinnion Thomas to Dennis Morris as the first-half clock expired gave Woodlawn the points it needed in a 1 4-8 spoiling of BTW's Friday night homecoming. "It's a big win for us," Knights coach Mike Green said. "This is the first time we have won three in a row." Only 57 seconds into the game, the lions fumbled, setting up Woodlawn's first possession on the lions 38-yard line. The Knights were quick to capitalize on their o)cning drive as running back Cortney McCall took a hand-off from Thomas 10 yards up the middle for a first down on the lions' 28-yard line.
