Junior halfback Ijemond Wheatley scored three first half touchdowns on long runs, as the visitors built a halftime lead and cruised to the victory. Wheatley scored on runs of 28. 15 and 19 yards to give Benton (4-0) all the scoring it needed. "North DeSoto is young and we knew coming in we were a better football team, so we just tried to stay focused and get better. Hopefully we did that." Benton coach Mitch Downey said.

The Yellow Jackets amassed 303 yards on the ground with Jefferson getting 102 and fullback Ben Jett adding 69. Defensive battle goes to undefeated Rams thanks to pair of turnovers horses in the first half, it was a 75-yard punt return by Brent Smith that highlighted the scoring. Smith took a handoff from Pat Williams and used his speed to give Byrd six points and a 14-0 lead with 7:07 left in the first quarter. Keith Brown's 7-yard TD run capied a 67-yard, seven-play drive on Byrd's first offensive series. Jackets quarterback Jeremy Wilburn, who completed 4-of-6 passes for 70 yards, got in on the scoring in the opening quarter when he found Delton Chandler on a 6-yard TD toss.

Fair Park closed the gap to 21-7 when quarterback Justin Marshall hit Robert Davis with a 44-yard score. Obviously, Byrd had a mixup on coverage because Davis didn't have a defender within 20 yards of him. The Indians added another touchdown in the second quarter on a 20-yard burst by DeAndre Williams. But Byrd just had too much thanks to some hard running by Jett, who had TD rumbles of 7 and 2 yards. Jefferson also raced 56 yards for a score.

"We played hard but we got some bad breaks earry," Fair Park Coach Husher Calhoun lamented. "Byrd did a good job of coming back from last week. We thought we could recover but we'll just go back and work harder." "We were able to get a couple of quick scores and that got us going." Mike Suggs, Byrd coach they scored on some turnovers." Both of Bastrop's touchdowns came as a result of Huntington turnovers. With the game scoreless, Sirderrick Dotson fumbled the second-half kick- was so stout the Griffins (1-3) could manage just one first down in the first half and that came with less than three minutes remaining when quarterback Jonathan Creech hit Demarcus Clark for an 11-yard gain. The Griffins managed only 34 yards of total offense in the first half.

"We got to play a lot of people tonight, which should help us down the line," Downey said. Benton also benefited from a safety when the GrifDns centered the ball over the head of punter Gray McGee, who kicked the ball out of the end zone. One of the bright spots for North DeSoto was a pair of pass interceptions by McGee and Ryan Burford. The Griffins also got a fumble recovery by Shelton Dowden, but couldn't capitalize on any of the turnovers. Thomas bolted for a 98-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter but the play was called back due to an illegal block in the back.

The Tigers scored on their first offensive possession when they moved 49 yards in seven plays with Wheatley capping the drive with a 28-yard scamper around left end. Wheatley scored again from 15 yards out one series later for a 1M Benton lead. In the second half, Benton added touchdown runs by Byrd (2 yards) and Aaron Adams (1 5 yards) off before Rams junior Dominique Williams scooped it up and scampered 20 yards for the score. "It was huge," said Bastrop By Roy Lang III The Times The loss of three starters on the offensive line took its toll on the Huntington Raiders on Friday night.

Every time quarterback Bud Bogan dropped back to pass or sprinted out to start the option, it was as if the Bastrop defense was there waiting. The Rams pressured Bogan all night, holding him to three completions, 22 yards rushing and a crucial fumble in the fourth quarter as Class 4A Bastrop (4-0) clipped the 5A Raiders 14-6 at Independence Stadium on Friday. "Against a great team like Bastrop, our lack of depth really showed," Huntington coach John Piazza said. "We didn't expect that we expected our young guys to step up. I thought we played as well as they did, but One play after the Raiders executed a fake punt from their own 17-yard line, Bogan fumbled as he rolled left, and Bastrop took possession on the Huntington 30.

Nine plays later, on fourth-and-goal from the 4, Rams quarterback Derek Oueilette found Joseph Smith over the middle to help put Bastrop up 14-6. The Raiders' final chance came with the ball on Bastrop's 30 yard line with under a minute to go in the game. Facing fourth-and-15, Bogan heaved a pass to the end zone but it fell harmlessly to the ground after a well-covered John Williams couldn't reel it in. "With the team we had on the field, we probably played as well as we could play," Piazza said. Oueilette finished the game 7 of 18 passing for 107 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

The Raiders were led by Fobbs, who carried the ball 13 times for 100 yards. While Oueilette moved the Rams down the field in the first half, the Raiders' defense never gave in. Huntington twice sent the Rams away without points inside the 10 yard line. Alimod Lewis broke up a pass in the end zone on a fourth-and-goal from the 4. The Raiders stood strong on the next possession, recovering a fumble on their own 10.

Orleans Civil Sheriff Paul Valteau said he has received complaints that Lake Charles and Calcasieu Parish authorities drew weapons as they ordered Kennedy supporters out of the area. That is slated to happen again when Landry visits Washington-Marion on Oct. 24. ports. On Friday, Henry said he was scheduling a hearing for Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Baton Rouge.

The LHSAA technically cannot fire or suspend coaches, but can put whole school teams on probation, under postseason bans or ban a team from playing an LHSAA-sanc-tioned game with a certain coach present on the sidelines. Alvarez was booked with second-degree battery after allegedly punching Barbe High assistant Paul Demarie. But Alvarez who admits running on the field out of frustration with the officiating in his team's 19-18 loss has said he was provoked when Demarie uttered a racial slur. The Barbe coaching staff denies making racist remarks.

Band members and fans also were seen scuffling until authorities took control of the scene and began directing people out of the stadium, Calcasieu Parish and Lake Charles officials have said they received no complaints about their law enforcement officers' behavior at the game and have seen nothing that indicated the complaints Valteau received were genuine. Many of these issues are expected to be hashed out at Wednesday's hearing, which will be attended by officials and coaches from both schools, as well as witnesses to the events in question. The hearing, to be held at the Embassy Suites Hotel, will be open to the public.
