"They have their backs against the wall kind of like ours are," Calhoun said. "Our kids come to play that game. We played a pretty good last week against Neville. We've just gotten better.

We had some kids get hurt earlier, and hopefully we're getting some of those back." Offensive lineman DeAndre Carter could return. He's been out since the Bastrop game. Kevin Jones, who missed the Neville game with a pulled groin, could also play against the Knights. "Jones is moving around a little better," Calhoun said. "I thought the kids responded well without him being in there." RED RIVER: Many may have been the favorite to win the first title in the new District 2-2A coming into the season, but the Bulldogs went on the road and beat the Tigers last week.

That sets up Red River as a contender for the crown in the short Southwood is in must-win mode The last two years, Southwood has gotten to its fifth game and run into trouble. This year, the Cowboys won that week but haven't won since. If the Cowboys are to make the Class 5A playoffs, they will have to win this week against Natchitoches Central, and, if coach Scott Abernathy is right, again next week at Evangel. "We've probably got to win the next two, but we definitely have to win this game to even have a chance," Abernathy said. "Wevegot to win the next two ballgames and have some things happen for us with some other teams.

"We have four (opponents) that have open dates, Abemathy Ruston earlier this season. And the Eagles have no doubt they are going to win easily and watch their freshmen play late in the fourth quarter. Evangel 32, Huntington 13. Airline vs. West Monroe: The Rebels haven't been challenged in the district season.

The Vikings may have the speed to win the game, but they will have to find an edge on both sides of the line to pull it off. Otherwise, it's another year of beating everybody else but losing the biggest one. West Monroe 24, Airline 18. Captain Shreve vs. Byrd: The Yellow Jackets have had their toughest games other than last week's against teams that passed the ball well.

This will be a close one, but the Gators are still learning how to win. Byrd 19, Captain Shreve 16. Green Oaks vs. BTW: The Giants are having the better season, but the Lions would like nothing better than to ruin it. And they have the opportunity to do it.

BTVV 12. Green Oaks 8. Mansfield vs. Benton: The Tigers have been waiting to play the Wolverines after losing to them last year. This will be the best offense Benton has seen all year, but that can be negated by an offense that controls the ball as long as it puts the ball in the end zone enough times to stay a step ahead.

Benton 27, Mansfield 24. North Caddo vs. Springhill: The Lumberjacks are rolling through District 1-2A. and the key for the Rebels will be to stop big receiver Cedric Mendenhall. That won't be easy.

North Caddo 23. Springhill 21. Bossier vs. Parkway: If the Panthers don't win this week, they should expect to sit home in two weeks. Things aren't much rosier for the Bearkats, so they will win the game they always win.

Bossier 27, Parkway 20. Plain Dealing vs. Haynesville: The Lions made their season and spoiled the Tors' with an upset of Haynesville in the regular season. This time, they get to THIS WEEK'S and that hurts us. And some of the teams that we scheduled expecting them to have good years have not had real good years.

That's really hurt us in the crunch." But it's all about power points, and the best thing the Cowboys can do is to rack them up in bunches by winning games. "We've got a group of seniors that want to end the thing on a positive note," Abernathy said. "Their goal at the beginning of the year was to make the playoffs. We're not in a give-up mode." Natchitoches Central is up first, and the Chiefs have only two wins this season none in District 1-5A. "The thing about them is they play a lot of sophomores," Abernathy said.

"They've got a really good fullback (Brian Young) that runs the ball hard, and they have pretty good offensive linemen. We'll have to be effective stopping the fullback." FAIR PARK: When Woodlawn was working toward the playoffs last season, the Indians jumped up and knocked them off despite fewer wins. Coach Husher Calhoun is hoping his team can do that again this year, but he isn't counting on three-week district season. The other 1-0 team, Jonesboro-Hodge, visits Coushatta this week, and the winner will be the team in charge going into the final game of the A. Prealow season.

Coach Reginald Prealow is hoping to have a healthier team this week. His son, receiver Antonio Prealow, is among the injured. "He's been playing the whole season with a pulled quad muscle," coach Prealow said. "We've got a few more with some bumps and bruises, too." RINGGOLD: The Redskins are 2-1 in District 1-1A and fighting for a playoff spot after a win over Cotton Valley on Friday. Coach John Bryant has checked out the power ratings and knows his team has to collect every victory it can.

"We've made it up into the top 32, so we're kind of borderline," Bryant said. "(Sarepta) has been real close in a lot of games, but they haven't gotten a break. Well have to play well defensively. Defense has kind of keyed us all year." Brian McCallum A. fit.

Dan CurrtefLouisiana Gannett News by Southwood's Abron Johnson on 30-14. try to do it on the road against a team on a three-game winning streak. Haynesville 29, Plain Dealing 17. Minden vs. Northwood: All those tough games are paying off for the Falcons as the regular season reaches its end.

The Falcons looked impressive against Woodlawn and should have some confidence. Northwood 28, Natchitoches Central vs. Southwood: The Cowboys have to win this game to have hopes of making the playoffs. Southwood 26. Natchitoches Central 14.

Fair Park vs. Woodlawn: The Knights have had trouble with the Indians lately and they will be waiting again. Woodlawn has the motivation with a playoff spot on the line but will have to play better than it did against Northwood. Woodlawn 23, Fair Park 20. The Raiders have a big offensive line and a running back running behind it who likes to go up the middle and has the speed to leave opponents behind.
